Amazing singer Charice comes out as lesbian

I know some here are going to say "this is not news" blah blah but I think it's a big deal. Born and raised in the Philippines, Charice rose to fame for her ability to mimic the voices of Whitney, Celine, Mariah and others in very good cover performances of their songs. David Foster signed her up and made an album. A couple years ago her song "Pyramid" hit #1 on the Billboard Dance chart. In recent years she has appeared on the hit show Glee. Most of the time in the music business, we're used to seeing lesbian singers like Melissa Etheridge or the Indigo Girls. A lesbian who sings diva songs definitely helps to break that mold and I think variety is always a good thing. Hopefully this amazing singer will have more success in the future now that she is more comfortable in her own skin smile

Former “Glee” star Charice Pempengco officially came out Sunday in an emotional television interview in her native Philippines.

When asked pointedly about her sexuality on he country’s popular “The Buzz,” the 21-year-old pop star responded, “Opo, tomboy po ako” — which translates from Filipino as, “Yes, I’m a lesbian.”

Charice broke down in tears after the admission, adding that she was now estranged from her mother and brother. (Her father died in a 2011, stabbed in the chest with an icepick in a grocery store near Manila.)

She also apologizing to any fans that were offended by her sexual orientation.

Charice guest-stars as exchange student Sunshine Corazon the 2010 season premiere episode of ‘Glee.’

Though the interview was visibly painful for Charice — who has been dogged by rumors ever since she ditched her trademark flowing locks for a more adrogenous, short hairstyle — she added that “Now I feel free.”

Charice is famous on this side of the Pacific for performed on several episodes of “Glee” as a character named Sunshine Corazon from 2010 to 2011, but is a reality television superstar and viral video sensation in Asia.

“To those who can accept me, thank you very much,” Charice said at the end of the interview, according to a translatio...d Life.com. “We are all equal, whether you are gay or straight.”

Charice is a perfect vocalist, it's a pitty that she doesn't work on R&B/Soul music like she's supposed to do, I'm not saying Charice should do that i just think the girl got a rare vocal range and she has to use it BEFORE IT EXPLODES.

Anyway with the lesbian thing, i pretty much adore her as a person, i don't think being gay does matter in this time, And anyways i bet every other female artist from Katy Perry to Miley Cyrus to Rihanna are lesbians, and of course they ain't gonna show it, I just feel they're gay and like each other whatever.

So she got that horrible haircut to show she really is a lesbian? JK I'm being silly, but serioulsy I don't get why so many lesbians ge that "butch" look as soon as the come out of the closet. A particular look doesn't make them any more or any less homosexual.

Anyway she has a great voice and I wish her the best.

I understand what you mean by that with regards to you don't think that it makes "them" look any more or less homosexual, however many people do have those types of associations.

As for why so many get a different looks once they come out:

.

Well.... perhaps some people start presenting in a way that they have always been interested in presenting.

.

Perhaps they feared that performing gender in non-traditional ways or maintaining looks which are non-heteronormative would might draw more attention to something they were trying to hide?

.

I can say that I know many homosexual folk who didn't change because they came out, but rather the coming out process allowed for them be less fearful of being more expressive or expressive in ways which seem non-conventional to others. I don't think it caused them to do so.

.

I think it's pretty awesome that Charice could come out and be honest about her identity even despite potential backlash. And I personally dig her hair short or long. wink

Reports are that this Is her Girlfriend, Alyssa Quijano.

Powerhouse Filipina singer Charice has only been out of the clos...r of hours, but she’s already off the market: For months, she has been in an intimate, secret relationship with Alyssa Quijano, a member of the Filipina girl group AKA Jam.

Proud to wear a promise ring given to her by the Glee star, Alyssa was by Charice’s side during her media appearances on Monday.

“She’s like my everything,” Charice said, explaining that they had known each other since childhood, but only crossed paths again last summer on The X Factor: Philippines, last year, where Charice was a judge and Alyssa, a contestant.

Good 4 HER! It takes a LOT of guts 2 come out in general. So many people think that being gay is a choice. I look at it THIS WAY: Why would ANYONE "choose" a life so filled with such intense loneliness/alienation, doubt, fear and/or ill public perception?

I hope she stays strong, stays proud of who she is and carries on in spite of what judgement(s) may await her. The truly "weak" judge. The truly enlightened "accept."

I don't know her personally, but I "feel" 4 her and I love her leonine voice. I pray she'll b fine and that she'll find her way w/o any problems. She's adorable and seems really sincere and genuine, two qualities that most people today lack.

Hungry? Just look in the mirror and get fed up.

I had no idea, but then again, I don't know much about her or read about her. "Note To God" is my favorite and only song of hers.

Never heard of Charice, never heard her mumble a note. I don't watch Glee and have no interest in watching it...I grew up with "Fame" and watching another Singing Drama/Comedy show doesn't appeal to me.
