What was the very 1st Cd that u owned/purchased?

Mine was Lovesexy by Prince.

At the time, I was NOT sold on the "cd" as a new meduim. I was hesitate 2 evey buy cd's becuase u could not record on the meduim. I thought it was a waste of money. I had owned the DAT player, the Digital cassette and I rarely used either of those formats.

Trout Mask Replica by Capt Beefheart

It was about 1 1/2 years til I would buy a CD player! But it was on sale & I knew I'd want it in my collection once I got a player.

I think my 2nd CD purchase might have been Beefheart also - the 2fer of Spotlight Kid & Clear Spot, bought the same day as the player in early 92. I was real into him at the time & all his LPs were out of print.

The first cd that I bought was:

19633.jpg (280×280)

My parents bought Marvin Gaye's greatest hits originally for me, but this was the first one I saved up and purchased for myself.

Long before I even owned a CD player I ordered a whole box of them for a penny or a quarter from Columbia Records & Tapes Club. Let's see, there was...

Karyn White

Fleetwood Mac - Greatest Hits

Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814

Electronic

Anita Baker - Giving You The Best That I Got

Exposé - What You Don't Know

Bobby Brown - Don't Be Cruel

The La's

I think that was all of them. I used to just stare at the shiny discs. lol

I bought two at the same time, and I bought these two specifically because I thought they were the best albums I'd ever heard. And almost 30 years later, I still do! The CDs were:

"Purple Rain" - Prince
"Born in the USA" - Bruce Springsteen

Lionel Ritche "Dancing On the Ceiling" was the first CD in my household. The very first CD that I owned myself was Tina Turner's "Break Every Rule", which was given to me as a Christmas gift. I still got that sucker, too! biggrin

HIStory by MJ in 2001 (that was a LONG time after the first CD in my household, though).

Karyn White - Ritual of Love

I too fought the emergence of cd's.

I was real damn defiant. I even bought MJ's Dangerous

on vinyl which contained 2 lps in 1991. I finally gave in when i

bought Karyn White and cd players dropped way down.

er

I think mine was actually a very collectible item. The late 80s was the time when I was getting interested in (funky) music and CDs were all the rage.
So I bought a James Brown compilation called Motherlode. It had extra-long versions of People Get Yourself Together & Drive Your Funky Soul and I Got Ants In My Pants( And I Need to Dance)
A few years later, even a record store owner asked if I had the CD because it had been out of print for a while.
I said yes, but you're not gonna get mine!
So my first CD was already a collector's item.

confuse For the life of me, I can't recall my first CD. I worked at a used wrecka sto at the time, and I got a MONSTER discount, so I underwent a pretty manic binge on music once I go tmy hands on a CD player.

The store allowed us to borrow opened material before purchasing it, though, and I do recall my first "signed out" CD as Prince's Parade.

My first ever CD purchase was Squeeze's Babylon and On. I bought it to replace a copy a friend bought and I subsequently lost.

the first one back in 1988 or so was a Sampler

[img:$uid]http://clzimages.com/music/large/4b/4b_983258_0_EbonySoftSoulClassics.jpg[/img:$uid]

a bargain! cost something like 15$ which at that time was considered CHEAP for a CD...

the first two proper artist releases I bought soon after roughly atr the same time (don't really know which one I got first)

at that time most releases here were easier to get on vinyl than on CD, and it took a while til that changed, so I didn't switch to CD completely yet for some time

I think it was "Gratitude" by Earth, Wind & Fire. My older brother had the LP and hipped me to them when I was younger. So, when I earned my own money that was the first CD I bought. To this day, I still got a lot of catching up to do.

Cool, almost like me. I bought three my first time CD shopping - Springsteen - Born in the USA, Prince - Around the World in a Day and Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms (cuz it was supposed to be one of the best sounding CDs).
