Madonna to be honoured for top grossing tour at Billboard Awards

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Madonna will be honoured at the Billboard Music Awards show this month for her 2012 MDNA tour, the high grossing concert tour of the year, organizers of the awards show said on Wednesday.

The singer will accept the Top Touring Artist award at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on May 19th for the tour that grossed more than $305 million from 88 sold-out shows and attracted an audience of 2.2 million people.

"A cultural icon, Madonna is one of the most successful and influential entertainers of all time and was recently named Billboard's Top Money Maker of 2012," Billboard said in a statement.

The chart-topping singer holds numerous other Billboard awards, including the record for the most top 10 singles (38).

In addition to her music, Madonna is also an avid art collector. On Tuesday she sold a 1921 painting by the French artist Fernand Leger, "Trois Femmes a la Table Rouge," for $7.16 million to raise money for the non-profit Ray of Light Foundation, to fund girls' education in poor countries.

The mother of four, including two adopted children from Malawi, is planning to build 10 schools in the African nation.

There isn't anything wrong with that though. People of her stature will always charge what they can get away with.

Nothing wrong with it,at all wink this is a business, after all.

Many other Old School artists (Barbra Streisand,The Rolling Stones, etc) also charge a fortune for their tickets. If fans are willing to pay, there's no problem with that.

MDNA Tour To Premiere on EPIX June 22

May 09, 2013
MDNA Tour To Premiere On Epix June 22
Premium network EPIX will premiere Madonna's MDNA tour - an EPIX Original Concert Event - on June 22 at 8:00 pm ET. One of the most spectacular and controversial extravaganzas of 2012, Madonna: the MDNA Tour was filmed primarily in Miami as well as other locations. The MDNA Tour was the most successful and highest grossing tour of 2012 and was seen by over 2.2 million Madonna fans during the course of the 88 sold-out shows around the globe. The concert includes performances of several of her biggest hits including "Vogue", "Like A Prayer" and "Hung Up." She also performs songs from her MDNA album including "Give Me All Your Luvin'," "Girl Gone Wild", "Gang Bang" and "Turn Up the Radio." The album debuted at No.1 in over 30 countries. Madonna, along with her seven member band, outstanding troupe of 27 dancers (all clothed in 1500 costumes) and state of the art visuals and sound electrified crowds around internationally with what the Material Girl termed "the hardest but most thrilling and challenging show I've ever done."

"My show is a journey... the journey of a soul from darkness to light. It is part cinematic musical theatre - part spectacle and sometimes intimate performance art. It is journey from anger to love and from chaos to order. There are good guys and bad guys to help illustrate this point. Sometimes I play both. It must be watched with an open heart from beginning to end. I am sure if it is viewed this way, you will walk away feeling inspired, invigorated and will want to make the world a better place." concluded Madonna in describing the show's intent.

EPIX CEO and President Mark Greenberg commented, "Madonna's stunning musical performance and show-stopping moves continue to prove that she is truly a timeless entertainer. We launched the EPIX network with Madonna's previous tour, Sticky and Sweet, premiering the concert the first night that EPIX was on air. We are very excited to have her back on the network."

The MDNA Show was directed by Danny Tull and Stephane Sennour. Tull has worked with Madonna editing previous shows and her feature film W.E.

Yeah back in 2000, that could've been true but remember Madonna hadn't yet made a comeback to tours. After 2001, Tina's record diminished.

I hear you cuz when you LOVE an Entertainer you could care less about the Ticket price. I just think that Monster Rock Stars should give their Concert-goers a break when the World Economy is moving too slow...If you paid $300 for your Tickets it should be marked down to $150. a $150 ticket should be @ $75 and a regular $75 ticket should be $45.......Madge & The Stones have made more money than their Families will ever be able to enjoy. The Promoters will still make a Killing even with the marked down Tickets. One thing is for CERTAIN, no matter how BAD the Economy is people are still gonna Eat & go see Madge....

The fact that people are still paying those prices signals that they can afford to charge so much. The moment people really can't afford those prices, I'm sure they'll go down. These tours are run as a business.

Henaz...I want you to think long & hard about something...Do you HONESTLY believe that 90% of Concert-Goers can afford a $100 ticket today? A lot of people are in debt but they're choosing to sacrifice something to buy that Ticket...Trust me on that....

tours have become very profitable only in the last 10 years.
If you look at the top 40 highest-grossing concert tours, only 6 of them were made before 2000 (The Rolling Stones - Voodoo Lounge Tour, Pink Floyd - The Division Bell Tour, Michael Jackson HIStory World Tour, U2 - Zoo TV Tour, Pink Floyd - A Momentary Lapse of Reason Tour, Michael Jackson - Bad Tour). 6 out of 40 ... hmmm

funny that Madonna has never had a tour that would have been in the top 40 in the 80s and 90s, at the peak of her fame, even more funny that Roger Waters tour earned in 2013 more than the legendary Pink Floyd for any of their tours and the funniest thing is that the tribute Immortal tour already collected a lot more than any tour of MJ, even when he was the biggest star on the planet.

the prices of concert tickets increased during the last 20-30 years a disproportionate rate of inflation.

I was on the MDNA tour, it was fun, I saw a legend and I do not regret the money spent.

It'd be interesting to adjust some of the older tours for inflation or even the amount of tickets sold on the tour. Things would look very different.
