Your first vinyl purchase vs. your first download?

A friend of mine posted this on Facebook. I thought it was pretty funny.

Can you remember yours?

The first vinyl my parents bought for me was Sesame Street Fever. The first vinyl I bought with my own money was Kiss' Love Gun.

My first download? hmmm I have no idea.

I believe my first vinyl was the Police's Ghost in the Machine - could have been a lot worse.

I distinctly remember the first file I nicked through napster: Yo La Tengo's cover of Jackson Browne's Somebody's Baby.

I'm impressed.

The peer-to-peer platforms pretty much escaped my consideration. I'd been thinking only of online music stores. If I throw in sites like Bearshare, Limewire or Pirate Bay, I'm almost certain my first download would've been some crappy Prince boot.

I do not remember any of the children's records my parents bought for me which I'm sure predate everything else, but the first 'adult' 7" I owned was "Hot Line" by the Sylvers:

The first LP I ever bought with my own money was the Grease movie soundtrack two years later.

To find my first downloads I had to search on iTunes to get the answers. It told me the first legal download I purchased was U2's "Two Hearts Beat As One". I had ripped their Best Of 1980-1990 CD to my computer and bought a few other songs digitally because I felt the album was incomplete.

But the illegal download with the earliest added date was before then and most likely the first track in this thread: http://prince.org/msg/7/144871

I can't remember my first vinyl purchase or my first mp3 download. I remember my first CD purchase tho, Lionel Ritchie's "Dancing On the Ceiling".

My first vinyl was Anne Murray's "Highly Prized Possession" when I was 8 years old. My mother bought it for me. Always loved her smooth, deep voice, but the first one I ever bought for myself with my own money was Natalie Cole's "Thankful" album. THEN, the monster was created and I'm a full-fledged music junkie ever since! My first mp3 I can't remember cuz since I got "with the times" and bought myself an mp3 player, I've been pretty addicted as well. smile

First vinyl to claim as my own: Madonna, wham and Kylie. I got some nursery thyme records too but only played them on occasion

Downloads-probably doesn't really matter-Janet and her first 2 album songs before I found them on cd, followed by a bunch when napster came out-current hits of the time and r&b/dance from the late 80s from the likes of Jody watley, new edition and freestyle music
