I really appreaciate the ones who gave me answers and contributed to the first discussion, let's see if I could get more...

1. before Florence Ballard died, it has been rumoured that Diana Ross had sent her money for her and the kids, but she never got it..can we honestly believe that, or is it just gossip?

2. MOTOWN 25: Yesterday, Today, and Forever:, was a great reunion for a lot of the Motown alumni, but how come Glayds Knight and The Pips, David Ruffin, Eddie Kendricks, The Marvelettes, Rick James, were not given a spot on the show, were they even asked....?

3. Is Rick James the nephew of The Temptations' Melvin Franklin?

4. Berry Gordy wanted to sign James Brown, The Godfather of Soul, and Berry told him, if you come with me, I would make you bigger than what you are..has anyone heard of this story?

5. Was Marvin Gaye really that bad of a dancer? Shy around women? and very close to his singing partner, Tammi Terrell?

6. Besides Diana Ross, Chris Clark, and I am hearing Florence Ballard, who else did he have affairs with at MOTOWN?

7. Who wrote the most hits: Smokey Robinson, HDH, Clarence Paul, Ashford and Simpson, Mickey Stevenson, or Norman Whitfield/Barrett Strong?

8. they say in the early years of The Jackson 5, Michael was so much into Diana Ross that he wanted to even look like her, is this true?

9. Even though Aretha Franklin hails from Detroit, she never signed with Motown, but I heard Berry wanted her, what was the reason?...she knew everybody and grew up with them!!!

10. Was there friction between david ruffin and marvin gaye?

11. Nobody ever talks about Brenda Halloway, 'Every Little Bit Hurts", why isn't she considered or ever mention..and Shorty Long, "Function At The Junction"

12. Can we say that Jr. walker and The All-Stars brought down home soul to Motown?

13. Why in 1986 or 87, when Smokey robinson was inducteed to the Rock and Roll Hall of fame, The Miracles were not even with him, or when The Supremes were inducteed in 1988, but didnt let Cindy Birdsong go in with them, and Dennis Edwards goes in with The Temptations in 1989, whats up with that?

14.Did anyone know that there were a few people who recorded "Love Hangover", before diana ross, anybody can remember who?

15. 1970s Motown: the hits were coming mainly from stevie wonder, The Commodres, and marvin Gaye, and a few Diana Ross...

16. If Mary Wells would have stayed, does anyone think she would have been the Queen at Motown?

17. why did it take so long for the Funk Brothers to get the recognition and credit they deserve for playing on all those Motown tunes?...it didnt happen until Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On" album

18. Would "Reach Out I'll Be There" by The Four Tops, be their biggest selling record?

18. Would "Reach Out I'll Be There" by The Four Tops, be their biggest selling record?

  1. According to Florence's cousin Henry Gibson, Diana had written a check for Florence to pay mortgage on her house but he said Florence was too spooked and didn't accept the check. As a result, she lost her home.
  2. They didn't get invites from Berry. BG only wanted the SUPERSTAR acts from the original Motown heyday of the '60s hence why Rick wasn't invited. Only reason DeBarge was invited: they were the bigger pop success than Rick was. High Inergy might've been included due to their ties with the Gordy family (Gwen Gordy managed them).
  3. It's questionable since Melvin used to call everyone his cousin (it's alleged Richard Street was his cousin too). But it could be true he was Rick's uncle. Time will tell.
  4. James confirmed this and while he admired Motown, he felt Berry was making them cream puff and he didn't want that. He wanted to remain R&B and be his own boss so he denied the deal. Berry hasn't confirmed this story though and maybe the reason it may not be true is because James was contractually tied to King Records at the time. Though James did sign a deal with Smash Records to become a crossover artist so maybe there is some truth to a possible Motown deal.
  5. Marvin, according to Bobby Taylor, had two left feet. lol And yes he was very shy. Kim Weston would tell you that. And he and Tammi Terrell were like sibling-close, yes.
  6. Berry Gordy TRIED to get with Florence but Florence wasn't attracted to him. lol So he got with Diana, who allegedly played hard to get with him too but eventually won her over. It's alleged Berry also had an affair with Mary Wells and Martha Reeves but I don't know if it's true. But I can imagine that's why Martha got upset with Diana dating Berry. But who knows?
  7. Holland-Dozier-Holland, Smokey Robinson was a very close second and Norman Whitfield was a distant third.
  8. It might've been. I know he tried to perform like her in the recording studio. All them "ooohs" and stuff...
  9. C.L. Franklin, her father and her manager (at the time) thought Motown wasn't an established label yet and wanted Aretha to be with a bigger company. At the time Sam Cooke was trying to get her to sign with RCA Records. Aretha and C.L. settled on Columbia. Erma Franklin almost got a deal with Motown too but she also went with an established label.
  10. No. Other than the situation with Tammi, I think Marvin and David got along or at least were cordial to each other.
  11. Brenda and Shorty are considered "the unsung artists" at Motown. They had hits but weren't promoted because they were self-contained artists and Motown had no room for them.
  12. That wouldn't be disputed. The same can be said about Gladys Knight and the Pips.
  13. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame made an error with Smokey and the Miracles. Smokey was really upset the Miracles weren't included and kept petitioning the Hall to induct them until they finally got in around 2012. According to Cindy Birdsong, the reason she wasn't inducted with the Supremes was due to Mary Wilson telling the Hall if they induct Cindy along with her, Diana and Florence, she (Mary) wouldn't go and accept her induction!
  14. The Fifth Dimension and, allegedly, Sylvester. Ironically Marvin Gaye was originally offered the song by Hal Davis but he eventually got around to Diana because he thought Diana would make it sexier. He wasn't wrong about that though I never could hear Marvin singing that hahaha...
  15. Promotion and appeal. Plus Marvin and Stevie were their own artists at this point.
  16. She was their First Lady and original Queen. Mary herself said she made a (big) mistake leaving Motown at the time.
  17. Because Motown was all about the final product. They weren't gonna go into detail about who was backing who. Same can be said about many other acts in other labels. Like the Wrecking Crew for instance.
  18. I don't think there's no doubt it is. It's also their signature hit.
