GOod question. She's a great talent, a beautiful woman, and has sold over 100 million records. But in America sade is not an Icon. In england and europe most definitely.

She is definitely an icon in the U.S.

I definitely believe Sade Adu is an icon in some ways, one being fashion. There have been numerous articles about her style. I also believe she is more so an icon in the U.S. than some European countries including England.

I think Yes & NO.

I think she's and Icon to people that experienced her and her style/music in the 80's/90's but, (IMO)

She hasn't left a big enough legacy behind to make future generations view her as one of the more important artists of her time.. ala Michael Jackson, Prince, Whitney Houston ect.. I see her somewhat in the zone of George Michael in terms of Iconic status.

She seems to be more of a taliswoman than icon, because her fans seem to believe all is right with the world when she's putting out music.

But I'd go with icon. Her last 2 efforts were underwhelming, but I still adore her and her music, and she puts on one of the absolute best shows you will see. Sade -- the group -- is pitch-perfect live.

I think she's more of an Icon in the states in some ways, because in the UK she isnt considered the same way. I recently read an article on it, why she was more loved in the US than in the UK. I would say she's an Icon though and the band is superb live.

I love her! Her voice alone makes her an icon and she is also beautiful. She is not a pop icon but she is still an Icon nonetheless. The band is off the hook!

I love much of her music and "the Sade sound", however do agree with this comment. She's not been a cultural change agent, a revolutionary artist, nor a talent clearly standing far above her peers.

Which is why I said she wasnt a pop culture Icon but she is very well respected and influential.

I couldn't find it, but I found some other articles from last year and they'll give you an idea as to why she's more popular in the states than in the UK. Basically people in England feel she's an artist from the 80s, who hasnt really done much afterwards, I think it might have to do with the popularity the radio still plays in England and since her music isn't really in the top charts, people have just simply forgotten her. I read some other comments saying how she represented the yuppies of the 80s and Marget Thatcher since she wasn't doing music that was rebelious.

Definetly in the U.S. Although I love her music she's nowhere near a legend, although it is pretty remarkable how she's only released 3 albums in the past 21 years and still manages to do well on the charts
