Nah, show all the bitchiness, the egos, and diva like behavior... show it all, because that's the real Motown. I'll tell you what Mary Wilson was going through, she got left behind. Cindy? I don't see how she put up with either of them, if she had slapped them both, I wouldn't have been mad.
I got this show on VHS somewhere in my house, maybe I'll get it transferred over to DVD.
The Temptations know a thing or two about that.
OMG, yes.
Like I said show it all! Show Smokey Robingson "family" in the raw sort of speak. Hell, that's why they had to go to charm school, because they needed to learn when to turn it off and on.

Looking at Google Streetview for Hitsville and it's strange as it's dated July 2009, so obvious why all of the flowers are outside

May 16th NBC has The Office series finale at 9, followed by the seventh episode of Hannibal if it doesn't get cancelled at 10:01.

The time to re-air this is Superbowl Sunday, cable networks show really obscure stuff, especially the music channels. |

They need to re-release this, but there might be licensing issues. Japan used to have it on laserdisc.
It was released in the States on Laserdisc also. I found one at a thrift store not too long ago.

I wouldn't say that....per se. I think the videos and tabloid hype made him the most famous person in the world.
I think this was the first performance that catapulted him to another level of superstar. After this performance, the promo machine kicked in 1000% and he began a 2 year promo campaign for the project with singles and videos. You have to remember, he had been around for almost 20 years at that point and was only 24 at the time.
It was a genius promo move for him to perform at this show. 1st because the demo covered all ages. Those that grew up on Motown music and the younger kids had their modern day Motown idols there they liked (MJ, Debarge, Commodores, Lionel Richie (though he wasn't present), etc.). "Billie Jean" was a genius record and appealed to all demographics and to see him do the moonwalk/backslide just put icing on the performance.

Well MJ was already at the summit of superstardom BEFORE Motown 25. OTW was the biggest selling Black album before Thriller. People already loved MJ, but that performance shot him into the galaxy. I think Quincy said it was then that the album began selling a million a week. This was before the videos. MJ the star became a brand that night - the white glove, glitter socks, fedora, and jericurl started appearing everywhere. I remember after motown25 Mike was all we talked about at school for the rest of the year. People who didn't have Thriller went out and bought it. We all were wearing the white glove lol. crazy wonderful times.
Of course, the videos sent him higher and higher out there where no star had ever gone before. But imo, not even the videos could rival the Billie jean performance 30 yrs. ago. |
