They need to re-release this, but there might be licensing issues. Japan used to have it on laserdisc.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

And the 30th anniversary of my drunk Uncle Teddy's Debarge remark while watching Motown 25. He was on a bender, saw a bit of Debarge performing and said, "I didn't know Motown was hiring Puerto Ricans" had some more Wild Turkey and then passed back out.

Motown had a Latino label. Some of the acts were Charlene, Jose Feliciano, and Isela Sotelo.

yeah, the immediate area isn't one you would want to be. you would never want to visit that place.

you just drive by quickly and run a few lights on your way through.

Norman Whitfield's Afro should've had its own zip code...

I'm thinking this was also when Smoke was going through his drug troubles...

How funny the Gloved One made everyone forget about how poor the entire production was. And poor Richard Pryor going through cocaine and alcohol withdrawal...

I don't know anything about Detroit, but I've read that when the riots happened in the late 1960's, many of the buildings around Motown were torched, vandalized, or looted. But Hitsville was left alone.

That's because they know what it represented for them. That's the last place they would touch. Other places that weren't looted were saved because the owners put "soul owned" on it.

Has this ever be re-aired since?

Have any Motown specials goin back to those Supremes and Tempts specials ever been re-aired on something like TV Land or VH1?

I do remember around the time The Jacksons film was aired, they ran The Hollywood Palace special with Supremes, Stevie Wonder and J5. I remember because our family recorded the movie from TV and it was on a comercial (but we didn't record that.) eek

Thats a good question.

Motown 25 really needs to be aired... I think it should aired at least once a year.

The kids need to see what talent use to be and what it has come to.

Nah, show all the bitchiness, the egos, and diva like behavior... show it all, because that's the real Motown. I tellyou what Mary Wilson was going through, she got left behind. Cindy? I don't see how she put up with either of them, if she had slapped them both, I wouldn't have been mad. lol

I got this show on VHS somewhere in my house, maybe I'll get it transferred over to DVD.
