STYX sues A&M for past and current earnings This lawsuit will be a BIT tough to sort out since Dennis DeYoung is technically a writer of alot of the stuff in this lawsuit. But this suit basically is citing not so much money on their sales of music in the past/albums etc...but how the business model works now, digital downloads and ringtones of their songs sold through itunes etc.... Not surprised by this at all, alot of artists are finding that this "new business" model of digital was never covered in their deals since alot of these acts were HUGE long before.
STYX currently is releasing work through their own label and site touring very heavy worldwide, enjoying good sales, no $$$ is mentioned in the suit yet, but considering this band sold 30 million albums, and thats prior to digital, im guessing this $$ amount is high. They claim that they should be getting $2-5 dollars for everydollar they get. Styx Sues Record Company Over Alleged Accounting Improprieties3/1/2013 3:15 PM ET
Styx has claimed that the band's label, A&M Records, has engaged in deceptive accounting practices in order to deprive them of royalties. The band, according to TMZ, filed a lawsuit against A&M, alleging that "for every one dollar the band has received from A&M they should have been paid anywhere from two to five dollars." The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages. The band also claims that the record company went as far as creating a "phony business model" in order to avoid paying them the money they were due. The funds Styx was shorted on, according to court documents, included monies from digital downloads and ringtones. On a more positive note, Styx will be joining REO Speedwagon and Ted Nugent on the Midwest Rock 'n Roll Express tour starting in April.

I agree he's an ass and Styx at leasts still creates new stuff, Ted is nothing but novelty at best, guess Tommy Shaw feels obligated since he was in Damn Yankees "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

scriptgirl said: Does A&M even exist anymore? Universal owns the Styx contract with A&M so if Styx wins Universal pays. "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F
