Other than Madonna - who dragged up Gaga's name on multiple occassions - and the obvious Madonna fans here, who is comparing the two?

This is the first Madonna tour since Drowned World that I chose to skip. Instead I went to Lady Gaga. Twice. I can't speak for Madonna's show but the person above who said Gaga's tour was atrocious obviously didn't attend. The stage design was mindblowing, the choreography was the best I've seen since Michael and Janet's heyday, and the peformances (well, the two I watched) were awesome.

It should be no surprise Madonna's tour is number one in gross, though. With tickets above $300 and most around $150, and 88 stops, of course it's the top selling show. I may not think she's worth it but a lot of people do. There's a lot of 30+ year old professionals out there ready to fork over their cash - as evidenced by Madonna AND the Boss, who's in the number 2 spot.

Umm Gaga's monsters have had a fixation with Madonna from the very beginning when the press (press from all over the place) compared Gaga to Madonna. Madonna didn't say shit about all the bashing and comparisons until the shit hit the fan with the song "Born This Way" comparisions to "Express Yourself," in many of the song's reviews and which Madonna, finally, called reductive. Which it was. But Gaga, called it the most important song of her career, and could not understand the hate, but yet she admitted that she used the same chord progression from every other disco song and by doing that it made her "fucking smart."

I was a Gaga fan until I was underwhelmed by BTW... just bad, bad. Like an idiot I fell for the hype. And the title song with it's reference to cholas and orientals. Cholas were born that way? I didn't know gangmembers were born that way. And last I heard "oriental'' refers to things not people.

And I also resented the hell out of her thinking she was to become the spokeperson for the gays. Her fanbase either doesn't care about history or has no clue about the history of the gay rights movement. But her fanbase is either insane or they're a bunch of twelve year olds. I mean they wish death on anybody who dares to criticize her mothermonster. I think this week they've gone after Taylor Swift. It's endless with them, and Madonna is their favorite pick. They even made fun of her during the MDNA tour with tweets and facebook rants of how Madge is too old and that she'll probably brake her hip. Karma and Irony to the fucking limit. Which young bright thing broker HER hip and cancelled her tour? But the rumors are flying that the shit was just not selling out.

But just all the catty bullshit from her fans, that Gaga; for all her calls for tolerance, does not discourage from the monsters ongoing bullying, that's just hypocritical.

The last straw for me was her show at Staples: I'VE SEEN ALL THOSE GIMMICKS BEFORE...FROM COUNTLESS OTHER ARTISTS. How was the stage design mindblowing? Inflatable dolls? The Rolling Stone and Pink Floyd did that...20 years ago. And the atmosphere from all the young people there was like a junior prom. You'd think they've seen the second coming. I could not get out of there fast enough...the show was just tacky.

Gaga needs to chill out and stop worrying about "fame," I know she called herself a "student of fame" and all that malarkey but come on. (Which by the way, I also find ironic this whole 'fame monster' thing while at the same time telling folks to be themselves.)

The girl is talented she does not need all the bullshit. She got boring sooner than I expected.

eek bullshit

Yes it is bullshit. The dancing was amauterish to say the l east and the choreography was badly executed. It was like a Vegas act meets a high school musical production.

CynicKill

They both have gimmicks up the a$$!

Like I said before they're both the same, it just depends on who you prefer.

But "Born This Way" was a rushed album. There's no way she should've released that album at that time.

But Gaga is a victim of her times. She's trying to do the Madonna thing and the ONLY way to do the Madonna thing in 2013 is to do it in a bloated, excessive way.

Madonna can get away with style over substance after all this time because of her catalogue and her devoted fan base. Gaga needs to step back from the Madonna-for-a-new-generation shtick and focus on her strengths, which is strong showmanship, powerhouse vocals, theater geekiness and catchy techno-pop.

And stop with the overhype. It's been done before and by better (Madonna for one).

What are you people NOT GETTING?

STOP comparing these artists out now to artists like MJ, Prince, Madonna.

THEY ARE ARTISTS the artists out now are not.

BIG DIFFERENCE

I totally admire Madonna for standing behind albums that she puts out and working her ass off to put on a Broadway type show and trying to trump what she has done before (she knows her strengths and weaknesses--and capitalizes on both). Out of the "holy trinity" of the 80s, she is the only one who is still doing what she always did so well and not backing down from it--the live shows... And don't think she doesn't deliver--because she does. Ask my son, who saw her for the first time and was blown away by the show. wink

I used to stan for Gaga , I still like her but she has been having too many setbacks. The Born this way album, some other randomness and now Hip Surgery. I do hope with this new album she bounces back, she's not using her potential at all imo. That little monsters mess didn't help either. Her fans are the worst lol

As much as I enjoyed the MDNA tour,I now think it's time for Madonna to give the fans what they really want: a greatest hits tour.I realize that she likes performing "new" music and is probably tired of many of her classic hits, but I just think it's time to reward the longtime fans....the ones who are dying to hear stuff like "Dress You Up","Angel","Causing A Commotion","Who's That Girl","Rain",etc.

On the MDNA tour,I was disappointed with the new version of "Like A Virgin",which was turned into a draggy ballad disbelief I want a show where all the classics are performed,in their original versions! She (and Warners) could even release a new compilation and base the tour around that.

I've seen all of Madonna's tours since 2001's Drowned World and MDNA was by far my favourite. It's up there with Blond Ambition and The Girlie Show in my opinion.

Out of the last 5 tours,I think the Confessions Tour was the most impressive.A truly powerful, dynamic show! But the MDNA tour was thrilling,as well.

Confessions is probably a close second but I just loved the theatrical nature of MDNA as well as the 'Vogue' section with the Gauliter corsets and androgny, reminded me of the Madonna I grew up with. I felt like the MDNA showed all the different Madonna's from over the years, everything from the Sex Diva of 'Erotica' to the 'Earth Mother' of 'Ray Of Light'. It was the show I'd waited years to see.

the "Vogue" section was amazing, and the new version of "Candy Shop" puts the album version to shame! That was my favorite part of the show.

I'm actually torn about this. As much as I would love to hear songs like "Angel," and "Gambler," which I absolutely adore, performed live. I love that all her shows focus on the new material and retools the old hits. It gives the new material sucha a fresh feel and impact. I mean, I'm absolutely crazy about "I'm Addicted," after seeing it performed live. That song is a monster dance anthem.

That's my biggest complain about Prince's tours. They're greatest hits revues and for a hard core fan I find them boring. If I didn't hear "Purple Rain" live one more time I would be a happy man.

I agree with the "Vogue" section. Bringing out all those hot dancers dressed in some fierce drag took it back to its original source: the gay black underground scene of the 80s. It was fantastic. And yes the new "Candy Shop," is fucking awesome: a perfect, chill out, lounging by the pool with your friends, on a hot summer day.

And you can't deny the power of the "Act of Contrition/Girl Gone Wild," "Revolver" and "Gang Bang" intros. You knew right there we were in for a crazy, fun, ride. I never, ever, listended to "Revolver," before the MDNA shows...now it's one of my favorites. It really is a hell of a catchy tune.

Yeah,I see what you're saying, and it really is a bold thing that she does.....going on tour and playing mostly "new" material. Most of her contemporaries would never do that.Still,I hope she adds more of the neglected hits to her next tour...."Angel","Causing A Commotion",etc.
