Great documentary that explores the roots on Grune music. As well as the good, the bad and the ugly of it.

Good film! My favorite part is when the receptionist at Sub Pop explains how she came up with a "grunge glossary" of nonsense words with definitions attached, which got printes in the NME as gospel truth.

I also know the director - who also made the great doc film Scratch about hip hop DJs - donated all the footage he had of the Gits after their singer was killed, to fill out their own documentary, so high-five to Doug Pray.

I really dig that old Seattle sound. If i recall correctly, a distant friend's old band is in that documentary. They were called Some Velvet Sidewalk. My friend was the Bass player and thru him i managed to meet a few local stars.

I was into seattle and PNW bands like Violent Green, The Melvins, Tad, Botch, Unwound, The Wipers, Fastbacks, Blood Brothers, The Gits, The Need, etc. As far as record labels, K Records, Up Records, Kill Rock Stars and of course Sub Pop were happening.

The thing that was(is) great about the seattle scene is the DIY mentality. The Pacific North West had (has) this somewhat insular (or unique)scene that just blew the fuk up when bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden became popular. That whole period was crazy.

I got fond memories of seattle. If it wasn't for the weather i'd still be there.
