Favorite 80's Metal Bands?

The 80's was seen as the golden age of heavy metal while i disagree and think metal was great in the 90's and there is even still some great metal today.

But 80's metal is what got me into the music so post some of your favorite metal songs/bands

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

I always appreciated Anthrax for never taking themselves too seriously. I love a lot of other metal bands too but they often seem to lack humour.

Hmmm i personally find GNR, Van Halen, Bon jovi, Cinderella more hard rock than metal but that's just me.

Scorpions oh hell yes they had some really heavy albums headbang

It took me years to like Anthrax cause they whern't into the whole devil evil darkness hooplah as other thrash bands.

And the singing was more... well singing more than screaming so i was like wtf is with these guys and why are they legends?

But after listening to some of the albums they did in the 80's and early 90's i see why they kick so much ass!

First off as a fellow bass player i told you my gripe with rock bands playing it safe on bass!.

Frank Bello is a killer bass player in fact probably one of the best in metal cause he has some killer rifts and solos and doesn't stay in the background.

Mostly hair metal, not really a fan of head banger music.

Bon Jovi

Guns and Roses

Poison

Warrant

Only liked them in small doses much better was the funk metal group

Red Hot Chili Peppers, pre 1989 sell out stuff like Uplif Mofo Party Plan and Freakey styley

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

I guess once they started writing actual songs they sold out.

I know that it sold over ten million copies (worldwide) but Blood Sugar Sex Magik wasn't really that commerrcial, especially compared to other big sellers from that era. If people don't enjoy the album that's okay but to my ears it hardly sounds like a calculated attempt to score a hit.

Sure, it's a cover, but how can anyone not love this?

I wasn't familiar with the original and I used to think that Joey was saying "chickens in my head" instead of "tickin' in my head."lol

I like their later music, but they have lost their edge, okay Mothers Milk was their finest and Bloodsugarsexmagik is great. But One Hot Minute is shite, the next two albums okay, but the albums Stadium Arcadium and the last one are totally self indulgent sell out crap.

Listen to the early albums and even Mothers Milk and you hear their edge, Fight like a brave, Party on Your Pussy, Stone Cold Bush, Subway to Venus, If u want me to stay, Jungle Man, Brothers Cup, all totally Gnarly!!!!!!!

I kind of see were people are coming from but RHCP are some amazing musicians imo some of the best to ever do it.

And they did the punk/fuck/rock thing and went on to more melodic stuff.

i mean the By The Way album songs like Dosed, Don't Forget Me, Tear etc. Soudn beautiful especially with Fruciante's passionate guitar playing.

Stadium Arcadium i feel the same but some songs are a bit poppy on it i will admit.

So i respect the peppers from doing the early party anthems into going to more introspective stuff.

Hell i even kind of... just KIND OF liked One Hot Minute lurking

One grip i can say about later Chili peppers is that Flea did stop doing the hardcore slap bass on Stadium & I'm With You mad

Isn't it amazing how Bon Jovi has stayed big for so many years?

I mean for one i didn't live int he 80's but who would have though ''Oh yeah Bon Jovi will totally be making hits in 1997''

People gave them so much shit yet they survived through grunge, gangsta rap and boy bands to still get some big hits in the 90's and 00's while still selling out arenas.

I became a dedicated metal fan way back in 82...

Back in the day( in the us)California, Florida and to a lesser extent New York rulled the metal world. Florida for death and speed metal and california for thrash, glam and speed metal. Basically In california it was LA for the glam metal and San Francisco for the thrash metal. Although 3 of the big four heavy metal bands got their start in LA(metallica, slayer and megadeth)San Francisco was known as the place to be for a band that played thrash or speed metal. The metal fans in Sf were know for being crazy. There was this place in San Francisco called The Stone where a lot of metal bands played. By all acounts the shows that were played there were insane.

Here's some of my favorite 80's metal bands.

metallica

megadeth

slayer

Voivod

Anthrax

DIO

Judas Priest

Exodus

Mercyful Fate/king diamond

prong

Venom

Destruction

Kreator

Dark Angel

Death Angel

Morbid Angel

Coroner

SOD

Metal Church

Iron Maiden

Powermad(band from Minneapolis )

Helloween

Raven

Death(Chuck Schuldiners band)

Exciter

Heretic

Possessed

Motorhead

Diamond Head

Loudness

Queensryche

Danzig

Cannibal Corpse

Forbidden

Nuclear Assault

Sodom

Trouble

D.R.I

Defiance

Cathedral

Galactic Cowboys

Sacred Reich

Sadus

Annihilator

Accept

Laaz Rockit

Testament

Violence

Autopsy

Kings X

Overkill

etc etc....

Rest in Peace Bettie Boo. See u soon.

Never really been big on metal full stop. Where I grew up, only the really trashy kids listened to that stuff. Guess I just like music that has melody and speaking.

Still I know Hip Hop and Hardcore metal music ranging to Death Metal are at opposite ends of a spectrum. I like neither.

I did like By the Way, but no where near as good as Uplift Mofo Party Plan or Mothers Milk.

Personally i like, the first album, freaky style, and uplift mofo party. 3 are good(not great) albums. Mothers Milk is fantastic and so is Blood Sugar Sex magic which is like the funkiest album of the decade. One hot Minute is good just like the first 3 . Don't forget it has songs on it like One hot minute, shallow by thy game(i think thats wat it's called), deep kick, aeroplane, and one big mob which to me are all awesome jump up and down kick ass songs(with exception to aeroplane which is amazing sounding). after that Californication is okay id say 50 percent good/50 percent below average. By the way sucks balls and is boring and so does I'm with you. stadium arcadium is mixed or neutral to me. Now overall a great band but idk we should be talking about metal and these guys don't even come close.

funk awesomeness
