So The Roots are working with the dude that called Ray Charles a "Blind, Ignorant N*****"
http://www.avclub.com/articles/collaborative-record-coming-sometime-in-2013-from,91463/
The Roots and Elvis Costello are making some sort of record together
The Roots are working on a record with Elvis Costello that should be out later this year. Roots drummer and resident good guy Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson tells Billboard that the collaborative project was sparked by Costello’s three appearances on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon. “It was really love at first sight,” Questlove said. “The second time he came on, we surpassed the first one. So by the third time, he was like ‘Let’s stop messing around and do something together.’” That "something" turned into Costello and The Roots recording about 20 songs together, 12 to 14 of which should make the final product. The Roots are also working on their own new record, & Then You Shoot Your Cousin, which Questlove says the group is “in the genesis” of right now. That album is expected to see the light of day sometime in late 2013 or early 2014. In very tangentially related news, Questlove has also been producing D’Angelo’s long-awaited Voodoo follow-up, which he says is “99-percent done” and should be released by RCA Records sometime this year.
I guess the Jimmy Fallon money isn't enough, huh??

Have you read the whole story regarding Costello saying that? "Climb in my fur."

From what I reacall E.Costello was completely wasted in a bar or something when he made that comment. He has since apologized and admitted that he was an ass. Personally, Im a fan of both the Roots and Mr. Mcmanus. Looking forward to hearing this. This is what you want...This is what you get.

He was trying to piss off Stephen Stills "Climb in my fur."

There is no "story" to justified what he said; drunk thoughts mask true feelings. Whenever people express bigoted and/or racist thoughts, they are an enemy. Costello can dislike or say anything his wishes but I be damn if I'd ever work with him on anything. When you can't tell friend from foe.... it explains how and why we are at the bottom around the world, abused and disrespected. Pathetic and weak.

Excellent Post.
This is why people can say anything they want about our community because to many people in our community either kisses ass or gives people to many passes. If someone wanted to work with me and they called the great legendary Ray Charles that, I would tell them where they could stick it...
Quest is a buffoon and kisses ass. He thinks his down but his a non factor in my eyes.

^Exactly! He did the something similar to James Brown...

Not aware of the JB incident. I know I could google, but could you provide a quick recount? This is what you want...This is what you get.

That but I also think its disguisting how people just pass that bs off.
Quest also tried to minimize MJ's accomplishments to big up a overrated tired heffa.
His useless and I dont pay that Coon no mind or Costello whatever his name is

I've met Elvis Costello. My band were headlining a stage at Glastonbury festival. The weather was so bad that on the way in to the venue, they re-routed the artists into one area and the public into another area until they could clear the pathway back in. We jumped out of our vehicle and lo and behold, standing right next to us is Mr. Costello.
Seemed like a nice guy and I very much doubt he is a racist. It sounds like he was just deliberately trying to piss some people off in a bar when he was drunk. |

I agree with Ms Trina. When you are drunk or angry, the truth comes out. Lawd knows, when my Uncle Teddy was drunk, the truth came out-well, drunk, sober or angry, the truth always came out with him.
But as far as "Brother Questlove", I've been wanting to beat his oversized Teddy Ruxpin ass for awhile now. That man can't keep his damn mouf shut. He's like Mrs Jenkins from "In Living Color" or your 75 year old granny, whose mouth runs worst than diarrhea.
And he loves to put people on blast, but you never hear none of his business. I remember how he leaked D's song in Australia and they had a falling out for years over that.
And I love how people make excuses for Costello, maybe because he is a less asshole than that other racist, Axl Rose. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Axl Rose is not a racist at all. And before you quote "One In A Million" to me, remember that's a song - a story. If Axl Rose is a racist because of one lyric in one song, how would you classify Ice Cube, Chuck D and Tupac? |

Axl is a racist, as well as crazy as hell. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Thank you for this post.
People are so quick to condemn others when they are worse themselves. Everyone makes mistakes.

Seriously? We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Now, now. Don't you know? People who make mistakes of this kind are to be sacrificed on the altar of political correctness and their entire lives are forfeit. There is no apology sincere enough to redeem them. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

TD3 made the best post in this thread. Alcohol is the great revealer. So fuck Elvis Costello.
I just wish these asswipes would stop being PC with the apologies. I have more respect for a dude who's honest about what he is than some phony. [Edited 1/23/13 11:55am]

He's actually performing at Carnegie Hall at the Prince tribute in March, along with Quest and the Roots being the house band, but surprised to hear this about him.
