Michael Jackson's Son Becomes Celebrity Journalist, Discovers Meaning of 'Irony'

Prince Michael becomes 'Entertainment Tonight' reporter

"Hiding, getting away. You can't go that way because they're over there, we won't, let's go this way and pretend we're going that way and we'll go that way. Someone should say HOLD ON, STOP. This person deserves their privacy. You are not allowed to go there. I mean I go around the world dealing with, running, and hiding, you can't…I can't take a walk in the park. I can't go to the store. I can't. I have to hide in a room, you feel like you're in prison."

That harrowing, almost literary passage is Michael Jackson discussing the paparazzi with Barbara Walters in 1997, as transcribed by a fan site. And yet in the same interview, Jackson discussed selling pictures of his first son to the National Enquirer and other tabloids when his eldest child, commonly known as Prince Michael Jackson, was born earlier that year. Plus, Entertainment Tonight, for all of its ridiculousness, isn't exactly the Enquirer. All of which is to say it's ironic but not entirely shocking that the young Jackson is now an ET correspondent.

Sure, as with Luke Russert's ascension to NBC News correspondent when he was only 22, high-profile parentage is obvously the deciding factor here. But Tim Russert's Sunday morning perch on NBC's Meet the Press meant he could expect other poltical journalists to kiss his ring; he wasn't, we assume, ordinarily stalked by them. The late King of Pop was a very different case.

According to ET, Pince Michael interviewed someone for the first time in his life when he interviewed actors James Franco and Zach Braff, along with director Sam Raimi, about their upcoming Wizard of Oz prequel, Oz the Great and Powerful. The subject is especially appropriate (?!) because his father played the Scarecrow in 1978's The Wiz: The Super Soul Musical Wonderful Wizard of Oz. When told by ET's terrifyingly cheerful Brooke Anderson he seems older than 16, Prince Michael reportedly replied: "That's what most of my people say. That was all thanks to my dad. He raised me right."

More than 30 years after Thriller, and in the wake of last year's bizarre Jackson family feud, it's impossible not to root for Prince Michael. As much as anyone, he deserves a chance to grow into a successful adult, and he presumably has the financial resources to catch him if he falls. Still, we wouldn't have expected him to become a celebrity journalist. It's the type of quirky move that helped his father stay in the crosshairs of, well, celebrity journalists.

Pretty sure a caring adult might've advised Prince Michael to, like, start small and gain experience first, but then again being the child of Michael Jackson is so singular that it's really impossible for an outsider to judge. But can we still judge the adults, who evidently didn't tell Prince Michael that part of the appeal of watching him on ET is the peculiar irony of watching a "raised right" tabloid-target's kid going to work for a tabloid TV show. It could be worse; he could still go into music criticism.

Apparently, no matter what the kids do, they can do no right. When Paris landed her role in that "z-list" movie (if it gets ever released), people were complaining that she should be working with the real stars. When Prince lands a high profile job, it's because he's Michael Jackson's son, but he should "start small and gain experience first".

They surely won't have it easy.

Cirque tells more about new Michael Jackson Vegas show

Cirque du Soleil's second partnership with the estate of Michael Jackson aims to be a thriller.

Cirque's Welby Altidor tells USA TODAY that Michael Jackson ONE will begin performances May 23 and take up residency at the renovated theater at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. The show is a partnership between Cirque and the Jackson estate. The official grand opening is planned for late June.

The 90-minute show will feature five dozen cast members, from dancers to acrobats (no one will portray Jackson), and offer "a very close encounter with the music of Michael Jackson" and with the late pop icon's artistic vision, Altidor, "director of creation" for ONE, says.

Unlike Cirque's current touring arena Jackson show, IMMORTAL, the Mandalay Bay production will be more intimate and interactive, Altidor says. "It's another story about Michael's genius," focusing on his No. 1 hits. "There will be experiences above (the audience), on the side and in the front."

Cirque had what Altidor calls "unprecedented access" to Jackson's master recordings and will use them. "At times it will feel like being in the studio with Michael," he says. Tickets go on sale March 7 at cirquedusoleil.com.

That is your opinion! I feel Prince is in the same company as Mozart. Also some artist have been known to hire & place fans to do certain things as faint & scream at their shows for special effect. Like one other popular female singer/actress that has been known to charge a fortune to see her that shall remain nameless.....rolleyes

Exactly it's my opinion, just like you have yours. I know everything Prince does is a masterpiece according to you and you are right to have that opinion smile!

But if you want to go into a discussion as to why Mozart is more closely related to MJ than Prince, I shall give you some points. Firstly Mozart was a prodigy child that traveled all around Europe with his sister and family to perform and entertain crowds (just like Joe Jackson did with Michael Jackson and his siblings, MJ started to perform at age 5 with his brothers). He later on tried to be an independant artist and it worked for some years but he was very eccentric and enjoyed things that most people at the time didn't understand and later had alcohol problems (does it ring a bell about MJ?). He also tried to get his fathers love and appreciation during his life (who valued his son mostly based on his work, rather than on the personlity). . People knew he was talented and tried to disminish his talents in his later years, but he was always trying to convey a message with his music, just like MJ - Mozarts music became much darker and intriguing (cinematic is a way to put it) in his later years. They both died young and without money (MJs money were frozen) .They loved to entertain people and they are both known for their childlike qualities. I am in no way comparing MJ to the input Mozart did to music history, because Mozart changed music (composition, notation, instrumentally, time, scales, variation that few artists in popular music have done)

MJ hired people to faint? Really now? lol neutral lol lol lol lol

I have lost count of all the articles i've read that compared Prince to Mozart. I have never ever heard or read of anyone comparing MJ to Mozart..rolleyes

Anywho. I am again not trying to discredit the late MJ. But Mj always puts footage of peeps fainting in every documentary about him. In my line of work I know of many entertainers that hire organizations to hire people to scream & faint & applaud anytime they perform or enter the room. It brings more excitement. I have witnessed it first hand.

You don't have to be in showbiz to know cheers are staged and filmed before the artists come out. And I personally know people who have fainted that have nothing to do with the industry.

What about the millions of other people and fans that fainted, cried and nearly mobbed MJ publicly?

YOU were the one that brought the whole Mozart thing up so dont get mad because facts are thrown at you. Prince has never experienced the same level of fandom admiration as MJ whether it be through screaming, mobbing or crying.

Also, why are you still in this thread? eek

Its absurd and rather ridiculous of you to insist MJ fans faints, cries and mobs were all staged. The only reason why you think that is because you dont like MJ.

Prince has NEVER been mobbed or had fans crying or fainting to see him, period.

When I played in London in 2007, the O ² Arena, I asked the producers what had been the record number of shows played consecutively in their venue. They said six. I said that I wanted to do twenty-one. During two weeks they refused me, nobody had ever played for so long. All concerts were nevertheless sold out. Since then, Michael Jackson showed me that I should go farther."-PRINCE 2009

LAS VEGAS, Feb. 21, 2013 /CNW/ - The Estate of Michael Jackson and Cirque du Soleil today unveiled that Michael Jackson ONE™ will open and take residency exclusively at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino this summer. Directed by Jamie King, Michael Jackson ONE will start its preview performances on May 23, 2013 and have its official premiere on June 29, 2013. This entirely new show is the second creative project to be developed between Cirque du Soleil and The Estate of Michael Jackson after the top grossing Michael Jackson THE IMMORTAL World Tour, currently playing arenas in Europe as it travels the world.

To view the multimedia assets associated with this release, please click: http://www.multivu.com/mn...sino-vegas

The show

Michael Jackson ONE is a state-of-the-art visual and audio experience creating a theatrical evocation of Michael's creative genius. Guided and inspired by his music, four misfits set out on a transformative adventure. By journey's end, they will personify Michael's agility, courage, playfulness and love.

The name

Michael Jackson believed that all people are unique and equal, regardless of race or culture. His message was one of unity, harmony and hope for a better world. At once evocative and enigmatic, the name Michael Jackson ONE also presents a paradox: Michael was a multifaceted artist who strove to fuse together various musical styles and art forms. It is a fitting title for a unifying journey into the world of the King of Pop, the genius, the visionary, the One.

"This is our second project with The Estate of Michael Jackson which confirms how stimulating this creative partnership was meant to be," said Daniel Lamarre, president and CEO of Cirque du Soleil. "Michael Jackson is an all-time phenomenal artist, both timeless and contemporary. As a creative challenge, this project is the ultimate. Through the use of cutting edge technology, we will produce a new Cirque du Soleil theatrical experience not only respectful of Michael's legacy but also very distinctive from Michael Jackson THE IMMORTAL World Tour."

"We are guided by Michael's own philosophy in all that we do. In preparing for this production, Michael's message to the cast and crew for his This Is It concerts was foremost in our minds. He counseled them on what the audience experience should be: 'They want wonderful experiences. We want to take them places that they've never been before. We want to show them talent like they've never seen before. We're putting love back into the world to remind the world that love is important. WE'RE ALL ONE. That is the message. ' We feel the same, and that is what we are delivering both to lifelong fans and those just discovering his artistic genius with Michael Jackson ONE," stated John Branca and John McClain, Co-Executors of The Estate of Michael Jackson.

Chuck Bowling, Mandalay Bay's president and COO, said, "The partnership with Cirque du Soleil and The Estate of Michael Jackson represents an extraordinary moment for Mandalay Bay. We are in the midst of a major transformation at this resort, introducing a new set of experiences for our guests. Michael Jackson ONE is truly the crown jewel in that transformation and we cannot wait to share this very special production with the world."

Along with Jamie Kingwho started his career as a dancer on Michael's Dangerous World Tour and also directed the arena touring show Michael Jackson THE IMMORTAL World Tour by Cirque du Soleil, Michael Jackson ONE will bring together the creative minds behind The Michael Jackson Estate, John Branca and John McClain, and the diverse talents of the following creators:

Michael's former docs are making the news today too:

Dr. Conrad Murray
Ordered to Testify
in MJ Wrongful Death Suit

Exclusive

Katherine Jackson is getting her way ... a judge just ordered Dr. Conrad Murray to spill the beans in her wrongful death lawsuit against AEG.

According to legal docs, Mrs. Jackson wants Murray to testify about comments he made in his documentary, in which Murray said an AEG honcho told him, Jackson was on "death skid row" and AEG owned "the toilet paper he wipes his ass with" and "the f**kin' popsicles that his children are sucking on" and "if he doesn't get the show done he's over."

Mrs. Jackson thinks Murray's comments will help convince a jury AEG played fast and loose with her son's life, and that they happily hired the reckless doctor to care for him.

Murray fought the subpoena for his depo, but now he'll have to take the oath next month.

Conrad Murray ordered to meet with Katherine Jackson's lawyers

By Alan Duke, CNN
February 21, 2013 -- Updated 1847 GMT (0247 HKT)
STORY HIGHLIGHTS
  • Jackson lawyers can question Conrad Murray about Michael Jackson's death, judge says
  • Murray's lawyer says she will advise him to use his Fifth Amendment right to remain silent
  • "But Dr. Murray has a mind of his own,"lawyer Valerie Wass says
  • Michael Jackson's mother and children are suing concert promoter AEG Live

Los Angeles (CNN) -- A judge has ordered Dr. Conrad Murray to meet with Katherine Jackson's lawyers next month for a deposition in her wrongful death lawsuit against concert promoter AEG Live.

The lawsuit, which is set for trial in April, accuses AEG Live of causing the death of Katherine Jackson's son, Michael Jackson, by pressuring him to prepare for his 2009 comeback concerts while he was in fragile health.

The suit, filed on behalf of Michael Jackson's mother and three children, says that AEG Live executives hired and supervised Murray, who was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in Jackson's death.

Murray lawyer Valerie Wass, who unsuccessfully objected to the deposition, said the decision disappointed her. Wass said she would advise Murray to invoke his Fifth Amendment right to not answer questions.

"But Dr. Murray has a mind of his own," Wass said. "If he decided to answer a question, those parties don't know what he's going to say."

The videotaped deposition is set to take place on March 18 in the Los Angeles County jail where Murray has been serving his sentence since November 2011.

Murray, who was the pop superstar's personal physician, has never been questioned under oath about Jackson's death. He did not testify at his trial.

Michael Jackson's Doc
WANTED MAN

Exclusive
0221_arnie_klein_article_tmz
Dr. Arnold Klein, the dermatologist to the stars who was best friends with Michael Jackson and injected him with powerful drugs, has a warrant out for his arrest.

As you know, Klein has plummeted from grace after MJ's death. TMZ broke a number of stories, revealing that the Doc injected MJ with Demerol scores of times in the months leading to his death. He also used multiple aliases for MJ in prescribing meds.

Klein -- who has now filed for bankruptcy -- failed to turn over more than 100 pieces of wildly expensive artwork as well as a 2001 Ferrari Spider to the bankruptcy trustee.

The judge has now ordered the U.S. Marshals to arrest Klein and send him to the federal pokey until he turns over the goods.

As for the artwork, it includes pieces by Andy Warhol (including the famous Marilyn Monroe), Robert Graham, David Hockney, Roy Lichtenstein, Claes Oldenburg, Renoir, Rodin and Toulouse-Lautrec.

Klein tells TMZ, "It's bulls**t, it's fraud. Have them come arrest me."

Art is in the eye of the beholder, and the beholder is in deep s**t.

Yeah, I know what you mean. ET's approach of this where they made such a big deal of it and made such a big fuss of it for so many days was too much for me, too. But Prince did great. Nobody can say that he got the job just because he's Michael's son and everybody could see, he sucked at it. Of course he did it because he's his son, but he handled it! So good for him. I also hope he'll get something good out of it.

Damn, I can't stand seeing Murray's and Klein's faces again.

I have lost count of all the articles i've read that compared Prince to Mozart. I have never ever heard or read of anyone comparing MJ to Mozart..rolleyes

many musicians, composers and conductors called MJ genius. If you never heard of, so just do not want to hear.

Thank U! One of the best violinsts in the world (a norwegian chick, I don't remember her name right now) who rarely listens to "popular music" said that she was amazed at MJs artistry and music.

So to KCOOLMUZIQ, I know you are american and that Prince is valued higher in some regards than MJ when it comes to his music, but generally across the world MJ is considered a genius not because of his Motown 25 performance or his Jackson 5 hey-days, but rather because of his genius in the field of the arts of music, dance and entertainment. For many musicians MJ personifies music in a way very few people can do, because he didn't use profanity nor sex to sell his music (even though he does have that in his dancing) and so many people respect him for that. It's okay if you prefer Prince and Janet, but don't diminish MJ's artistry...

But Mj always puts footage of peeps fainting in every documentary about him. In my line of work I know of many entertainers that hire organizations to hire people to scream & faint & applaud anytime they perform or enter the room. It brings more excitement. I have witnessed it first hand.

Wow! Now that is one of the most ridiculus things I ever heard. It's not like people faint faint, meaning that every person getting pulled out actually fainted. Have you ever been to a concert? Have you ever been to a standing concert? Have you ever spend a day (or in crazy, overzealeous cases overnight) queing up in front of a stadium, without food and drink? Standing in the front row for hours, in the burning heat, getting crushed against the barrier or the people standing in front of you by hundreds and thousands of people standing behind you? If you ever did that then you'd know that the only or easiest way to get out is by being pulled over the barrier! And you're being pulled over the barrier because either you can't stand it anymore getting crushed or you have to go to the toilet. Obviously some "weaker" people might have some circulatory problems, due to the stress of being in that situation plus the added excitement of seeing their idol. But really, to assume that "fainters" are hired is pretty much ridiculous.

And what do you mean, "he put it in there"... if it happens it happens and is just part of the concert. And people getting pulled out is common at almost every standing stadium show... regardless of the performer.

As ridiculous as it may sound. It is very true. I have witness peeps being told when to do it and at what moment. There are also peeps that are placed in the front row at some shows just to make it look filled up.

Also i have stood in line & been crushed by hundreds of peeps before at concerts. I do know what that feels like. I do understand what you are saying. That can make a person faint from dehydration. But not just because of the sight of someone. It can be from not knowing something is going to happen also. The unexpected. The blood rushing quickly to your head ..

I don't know how many times i have to say this. I have nothing against Mj. I think he was a brilliant artist that taught me how to sing when I first listen to The Jacksons Triumph album...He was at the top of his game..No one will achieve what he has.

no problem.
you just said that never heard anyone compared MJ with Mozart, I gave an example. I have a lot of them ... from musicians and composers from around the world ... from Russia to China and Australia.

personally ... I would not put MJ on a par with Mozart (Prince, too), but I met a lot of articles and comments, which made such parallels.
