You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Amazon.com has his stuff. Some are out of print. Get the 4 CD boxset "The Man That Invented Soul" it's a great start. It's available used for only $18.00: http://www.amazon.com/Man...ented+Soul

Check out Cooke's video life story here: http://thewordslinger.com...php?id=206

The Best Male R&B singer of all time IMHO!

Happy b-day to one of my fav singers!!! Love you Sam!

I always thought that Denzel Washington should have played Sam in a biopic, but I dont know now that he's older but he could def done it when he was younger.

You know...what I love about the old R&B singers like Sam Cooke (and Jackie Wilson and Nat King Cole and Little Willie John) is that you always knew immediately who was singing. They all had distinctive voices and styles. And they were all straight-up great singers.

Nowadays, practically everybody sounds alike and they do a lot of vocal embellishments to hide the fact that they couldn't carry a tune in a sack.

Those old guys could sang. Period.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Very true! It's a shame that most singers (posers really) sing alike and that's one of the reasons, the album market isn't doing well, because it's better to buy a single anyways. But yeah those guys could sang!! Love Sam & Nat King Cole, some of my inspirations, incredibly gifted singers!
