NEW MUSIC: Willow Smith's "Sugar & Spice" Jan 08 |
Willow Smith just released a brand new song for her fans...and apparently her haters as well. Check out her airy and melancholy "Sugar & Spice" inside... Willow is back with her pre-teen angst on "Sugar & Spice." Shes singing from a seemingly darker place than her "Whip My Hair" track where she claims to be drowning from all of the screaming, criticisms, and whatever else sends a a per-pubescent girl into a tizzy. She may be the daughter of Hollywood Royalty who seems to lead a charmed life spending her days making music, shopping and chillin' with friends instead of slaving over her long division in school. But she's telling us she has her problems as well. The singer/actress says in the song:
Love the vibe actually, but we constantly have to remind ourselves it's a 12-year-old singing. Sounds like homegirl has been going through some deep moments...deeper than necessary at that age. You feelin' it?

'Codex' is a great song to sample, but this is really depressing. Like, Really depressing. It must be tough going through normal growing pains and insecurites while constantly being on display. As the father of a teenage girl I have a 1st hand look at what she and her friends go through in terms of acceptance issues. I also collaborate with teen poets and musicians, and a lot of their writing sounds like this. Its a tough time for this age group, regardless of financial stability (or lack thereof). Especially girls.
You're right; she and her parents are making the choice to be involved in 'the industry'. She seems to need an outlet for her creativity, and sometime the feedback may be a little harsh for her to hear. And for the record, Im not really checking for Willow Smith. Has anyone suggested to the Smith kids that maybe they could have a go at doing something else? Y'know, law, medicine, animal husbandry....whatever they fancy. Jaden Smith & Willow Smith "Kite" (NEW MUSIC)
Talent definitely runs in the Smith family. Sibling duo, Jaden and Willow Smith, team up on a Teo-produced track together. Willow recently released a beautiful introspective ballad titled "Sugar And Spice," now she's taking her stab at spitting a couple bars on "Kite." "You're emotion, got me rollercoastin/I want all in your ocean, man look at when I goes in/I got no friends, but if you would've seen when we came, you would know that we're making a name," raps Jaden. "Lost, in space and I see your face on Mars/no trace, but I find you in them stars/I'll chase you til this planet falls, Lil mama got bars," raps Willow.
