Toni Braxton was in the spotlight on last night’s 20/20. The Grammy-winning diva opened up about her two bankruptcies, posing for Playboy, and her medical conditions.

The 45-year-old singer, who was addicted to spending money on high-end goods for her home, has became more cautious in recent years. “I have to monitor myself ’cause I’m definitely on a budget,” she said.

She also debated posing for Playboy when times got rough, but decided against it because of her sons. “What are their friends gonna say?”

One month after she renewed her contract for her Las Vegas show, she was diagnosed with Microvascular angina and later Lupus. “The doctor told me I would never be able to perform,” said Toni, who defeated the odds.

When asked why her last three albums didn’t sell as well, she laughed, “That’s like a one-night stand that you don’t want to talk about.”

As I and others have said before, Toni gives the impression that she's not a good businesswoman and is not a good financial planner. She's one of those girls (now a woman) who went into the biz blindly and didn't realize that there's more to it than simply having hit singles/albums. Unfortunately Toni is 1 of the more famous cases of a once naive newcomer who got screwed by a crappy deal but thought she could live like she had an infinite amount of money at the bank. It makes me wonder how many current recording acts are in a similar situation.

She co-wrote with her ex-husband her most recent single " I Heart You" so even though that song only got club play, she got paid more of the percentage of that than for her other hits in the past. Toni will now have to largely rely on live gigs, her family reality show and as the video noted, possibly going into acting, as it seems unlikely she'll have any more radio hits due to her age.

I'm glad she didn't do Playboy...while I'm not against nudity, I like it only if the person doing it is someone who WANTS to do it. Toni only ever considered it because she needed the money.
