Black Men United- U Wil Know I'm still amazed so many HUGE R&B Stars of the 90's are on this yet it was not even a top 10 hit....
Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

If you think about it, only DeBarge (though in the 80s) and Gerald (same as Eldra) hand't hage huge hits in the 90s at that point? Tony's never had a top ten his I don't think. PRetty Brown Eyes was a top ten hit, but Stockley on his own wasn't known. Tevin Campbellmight have been the biggest at that time from this collectin of artist.
Unless you're talking about Top 10 R&B, lol then disregard all of that. PRINCE: Always and Forever

Love this song; always have, always will. Great ensemble, great vocals, and our first introduction to D'Angelo... what's not to love? "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

here is the song as performed on the American Music Awards. I love how El looks at Tevin like "WTF is wrong with you" when Tevin tries to take over the song. And notice how Usher tries to show out on the song and is pretty much ignored, like "Boy sit your young ass down."

One question, though, did Brian McKnight coproduce this with D, cause in the vid he is shown at the soundboard with D. "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Yes.
Almost 20 years later, the only 2 who aren't still with us are Dino and Gerald LeVert. (Aaliyah and Left Eye are the ladies who have passed on from Panther's "Freedom.") "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

You mean to tell me that this song didn't hit the Top 10 on the R&B charts?
In regards to the live version from the AMA's:
Tevin, Stokley, Brian, Aaron, Joe all sound like they do on the record.
Gerald Levert sho'll had a way of making grown men sound like girls
Boy was Usher always an eager young lad. Yes, I'm being nice.
And finally, I wish D'Lo's mic was on at the end to catch his little ad lib. Wasn't he still in his teens when he wrote and co-produced this gem? He was cool as hell even back then

This came out in 94-D'Angelo was 20 then. It may have been recorded in 93-he would have been 19 "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

It did, #5 to be exact. Guns was referring to the Hot 100, because he isn't old enough to remember a time when a gathering of huge current R&B artists wasn't a guaranteed crossover success. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

Pssh! this is true i was but a VERY youngin when this came out
But you can't tell me this really went to only like 28 on the hot 100/:
I mean it had Boys II Men, R. Kelly, Brian Mcknight, Aaron Hall, El Debarge
And up & coming stars like D'angelo, Usher:roll:, Tevin Campell, Silk & H-Town.
Those where like THE peeps of male R&B of the 90's

Oh. Never mind. After listening a couple of times, the chorus started to sound familiar. I don't believe this got a lot of radio play, tho. This should have been huge! It should have become an anthem! "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley
