On our two Old School R&B Stations here in Philly here are the songs you'll hear most:

Encore - Cheryl Lynn

Atomic Dog - George Clinton

Any Stevie Wonder hit from 1976 - 1985(They rarely play any of the good album cuts off those albums!!)

Fire And Desire - Rick James & Teena Marie

Square Biz - Teena Marie

Coldblooded - Rick James

Tons of 1976 - 1991 Michael Jackson, too many songs to name, lol!

Watching You - Slave

Between The Sheets - The Isley Brothers

Reasons - Earth, Wind, And Fire

I Wanna Be Your Lover - Prince

Groove Me - Guy

This Is How We Do It - Montell Jordan

Poision - BBD

Love Should've Brought You Home - Toni Braxton

Just about anything by Creedence Clearwater Revival. They were a decent enough band but "classic rock" radio completely overplay them and now I can't stand them.

My fellow Canadians will appreciate this one: Bryan Adams! Ugh! I never listen to the radio voluntarily but there are situations where it can't be avoided and it seems like every gosh darn time I hear the local radio station they are playing something by Bryan Adams. He has had a lot of hits, particularly here in Canada, but I don't need to hear the same ten-fifteen songs over and over. Don't be so lazy, if you have to play the same artists over and over dig a little deeper into their catalogues and give us something different.

Also Young Hearts Run Free by Candi Staton. That's guaranteed to make me run for the off button.

My sister was linking me to "All The Things She Said" by Simple Minds and I realize I never hear that song anymore, more likely "Alive And Kicking" and MOST likely "Don't You (Forget About Me)".

I think that's the case for a lot of these acts. They had other great singles but radio only returns to the triple-A rotation #1 hit.

Besides 4 hits No. 1 Jackson 5 and Ben personally I have not heard a song on the radio of little Michael .... I cant imagine that often (which asks this thread) to rotate the songs on the radio of his first 4 albums.
Maybe on the rnb stations or any highly specialized, but not exactly central.
Although, being in Europe, it's difficult to discuss about airplay in the U.S. lol

Also, I dont believe that to be with all his catalog of songs in the category of "so overplayed, that you just cant stand them any more" - an honor .... it is rather a shortage! hmmm

lol I actually like those songs but I agree, they are OVERPLAYED.'Always And Forever" should be retired from Old School R&B radio stations!! They have completely worn it out!! It seems like they play it more these days than they ever did in 1977.

I haven't heard Farewell My Summer Love on the radio since it was originally out. lol The Mike solo albums on Motown weren't really all that big. They had been out of print, until Motown released a compilation a couple of years ago called Hello World. Occasionally, the soul oldies station will play I Wanna Be Where You Are, but that's it. I never hear Ben at all. I did hear the version from The Jacksons live album in a grocery store awhile back.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Where yawl live at? Are we speaking of free radio, the net, or what? Because they stopped playing those songs you've mentioned in Chicago 25 years ago. The ony time I ever heard anything from Michael Jackson on the radio in a couple of decades is when he died. Radio sucks, most net radio isn't much to sing about in the US either... that's why I do Youtube, 8tracks and some selected net radio apps from Apple.

Me it's Music Choice. Every time I used to go on Classic R&B, they would play the same damn tracks. pout lol Thankfully YouTube and 8Tracks don't delve into that similarity breeds contempt crap. razz
