Beck Working on New Album

While Beck stunned fans earlier this year by announcing that his next release would be a book of sheet music, Beck Hansen’s Song Reader, the singer has now revealed that he’s working on a new studio album.
Speaking on Australian radio station Triple J, Beck says that he’s been working on the forthcoming album for quite a while and will release the tracks in a “pretty much standard format.”
“I started a record, largely recorded in 2008, so I’m trying to carve out some time from all the production work I’m doing to finish those songs before they become records from a lost era,” he explains. “It’s going on a half decade at this point.”

beck is one of my favorite artists ever, so when the new album news quickly turned into the new songbook news, my heart sank. the songbook is nice enough, but it is not near as exciting as an actual album.
good that he's working on an actual album now!
here's to hoping it will be released spring/summer 2013.

his 3 songs for the "sound shapes" game were pretty amazing as well.
have those songs popped up anywhere for sale yet?
the only way i can listen to them is from youtube clip captures of folks playing the games and they have all the game noises over them.
they don't seem to be for sale on itunes or anywhere... and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

It seems not.
This from http://whiskeyclone.net/index.php
"There is no final Beck version of the song released at this point. What we do have is a series of loops and things that you can put together via the game to create your own version of the song."

I have hopes that he will work with Danger Mouse again very soon. Modern Guilt contains several first-rate songs.

Guero, The Information and Modern Guilt were all good albums, but I thought his vocal delivery had started to sound plain bored on them. The songs were good, the arrangements and the production were good, but goddamn those vocals, especially on Modern Guilt...
I hope the break he has taken has made him re-evaluate what type of stuff he should do and how he should approach the process of performing his music (I know he's had other projects).
It might be the case that he just wanted to take a break when it became apparent that the music industry was in really big trouble and just wanted to wait and think what to do next. You don't necessarily want to have another commercial flop just because everyone else has them too.
