Is it over for ne-yo

His last few albums have tanked. Nobody even cares that a new one is coming out ( I just happened to be flicking by good morning America and him and his band was all crammed up in a corner) and they mentioned it.
He reminds me of when Lionel Richie went solo-- great sales, great writing credits for a few years and then-- off the cliff

Opinions ?

Never really was a fan of Ne-Yo but just like you, I didn't realize he had a new album coming out until I was flipping through channels and saw a short commercial about it. Still not amused. Never really thought he was a good singer at all, folks seem to love his song writing skills, but to me it's just meh. shrug

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

His rise and (maybe) fall make you appreciate a lot of artists
Even more who have spanned decades

Yeah l think Ne-Yo's era is definitly over... confused

He's a quite good songwriter though, but they tend to sound like like each other though (no matter how different the beats, instrumentals) are, mainly due to his voice. He sings, whine, modulate his voice the same way in EVERY single song.

Plus I'm quite happy the R&B public turned his back on him when he went "techno/eurodance", and the "Libre Scale" album flopped. And it doesn't look like the new album will fare any better.

I'm not happy as a "hater", but hopefully, him, Chris Brown and Usher will get back to their R&B roots, the R&B public kinda punished them for selling out...

Everybody is somebody, but nobody wants to be themselves.

I've always liked Ne-Yo as a songwriter/producer more than as an artist. I heard about his new album about a month ago and thought it was a big mistake for him to pick the same album title as Taylor Swift. Only difference in their titles is that hers is 'Red' and his is 'R.E.D', which probably stands for something that I probably wouldn't care about even if I knew what it was. bored

All I know is he has some new song with wearing a red jacket and dancing to a dance song, can't recall the title and melody and don't care....his only good dance songs were i just can't stop and rock with u that he wrote for janet....I only cared for him from 2006 to 2009 and that's it. He was cliche, but still a good writer.

It's not "selling out" if they want to add a little pop to their sound (if they truly WANT to). I understand where you are coming from though, but I don't know i'm just annoyed at people getting on the Black "R&B" artists for doing something different ...they have to switch it up lol . Ne-Yo did pop with closer and Usher was always pop to me anyway. But they do shine when they do R&B. Funny thing is that most of the album is R&B but the singles are pop and people just close them off lol I do think they should do a 100 % R&B album that may help put R&B in the front again (Usher for sure)

I was looking for some other CDs when I saw new Ne-Yo on the New Releases rack, and I didn't recognize the album art.

Being a good songwriter doesn't always make a person a bankable singing act in their own right.

He should've faced the facts long ago.

The dudes he was writing for are considered sex symbols in their genres. He is not.

The voice is alright but there are better singers who don't have to wear a hat 24/7 to look appealing to a female demographic.

The dance moves are getting to be dime a dozen with the MJ heir-heads. Overdone to death.

he had the new kid appeal when he first dropped but now he's just another dude one or two steps above Omarion or Marques Houston on the food chain.

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

He needs to figure out a way to permanently attach that hat to that head. I'm sorry but he does NOT look good without a hat on at all. disbelief lol It's sad when there are artists that are only attractive when they wear hats and/or sunglasses. I used to think R. Kelly was hot until those shades came off and then I was like eek HOLY SHIT what happened there?!?!?!? Him and Diddy seriously need to surgically attach their shades to their faces.

For the most part he's just another bland r&b artist of the era.

I happened to see his video for Lazy Love this evening on Bounce

and i was like WTF. The song itself is very lazy. I did like his

Champagne Life single a couple of years ago.

He should spend time listening to internet radio and wait for the right European songs to be released so he can have his team sample more contemporary music. The musicscape has changed a lot since he did "oh my gawsh", he needs to be more fresh, like Florence and the Machine and stop relying on those sample DVDs you can buy in the Newsagents.

Even when Neyo was the "in" thing he was always overrated. His songwriting is better than his singing but even that is overrated.... He is no where on a R. Kelly level in that department. I even think newcomer Frank Ocean is better overall songwriter

Singing= very limited range

Songwriter= a little above average, but nothing spectacular

Performer=horrible

Overall....its not surprising he fell off

His latest album debuted at number 3 I think, but it only pushed like 60k units (or something around that number).

But Ne-Yo will always have money in the bank as long as he writes, that's where the real money is.

Neyo has annoyed me since day one. I tried watching one of his music videos a few weeks ago and couldn't even get through the first minute without turning it off. He seems so dull to me for some reason. Dime a dozen, mid-tempo autotune crap....

If he'd get off that bullsh**, he'll be alright. That eurodance beat,is all wrong for him. I have to say, his new album(which, i thought got shelved "surprise surprise" to me that i didn't), sounds like Usher's. They way it's set up and everything. They both need to stop with the eurodance tracks. Do them on the side, don't put them on your album. Whatever, though.

Edit: Or just do some soulful house. Holla at Osunlade or dude from Blaze. You wanna do some dance music, do it with them. Sh**, i'm sure Lil Louis will jump in the recording booth to work with him. Whatever.....
