How would you rate Justin Timberlake as a singer To me, he has a weak voice, sounds like he is 12. I will admit, I loved his 1st solo cd "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

Honestly 5. Loved his 1st album. His 2nd not so much. I only like two songs from that album. Future sex and end of time.

Somewhere between a midget asian mailhandler who swallowed a helium balloon and a dying cat or a 3. Take your pick. When go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all up in the house but when log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Extremely average, I like his music though.

Very weak not much range, sounds like Peter Brady when his voice was cracking on that episode of the Brady bunch.

At the beginning with 'N sync he was horrible live but I think his singing improved throughout the years. Last time I saw him singing was probably during the Haiti relief concert and he was...ok. Both futuresex & Justified are among best pop albums of 2000's and I'm definitely ready for another album from him. Someone PLEASE get him back in the studio!!

I wanted to hate him, but his 2 albums were so good so I bought them though feeling bad about it.
I don't think he should return to music, stick to SNL acting instead. I feel Timbaland is the genius behind his success

Pharrell also had a good deal to do with Justin's success "Lack of home training crosses all boundaries."

An inoffensive but totally average artist. I heard better singers in high school. He is one of the luckiest guys in show biz! My Legacy

Yes Timbaland and Pharrell had a lot to do with his success. But at least JT knows who to pick as a producer and if that's considered "talent" or "being smart" for, Madonna for example, Justin deserves just as much compliment as she gets, really. All I can say is his demos/unreleased songs I've heard so far are overall really decent. There are a few outtakes from Justified that he reworked with Pharrell not to long ago and some of them are....freaky good ! I just feel like in hollywood no matter what they started their career as, for some reason once they started getting into acting they'd rather do that instead of anything else (unless you're like a born-to-make-music type of person) Is it because actor-route is slightly more stable and safer than musician-route? Or maybe he's just feeling too much pressure since his albums were received so well in the past. Well all two of them at least. He probably doesn't even know what flop means lol. And @ alphastreet, I'm sorry, JT SUCKS on SNL!! (and SNL sucks in general lol) Maybe he's had two or three real funny skits but that's it. He's awkward as a host, comedian and actor. He's trying to do a little bit of everything but someone needs to tell him he's best at making music lol!! [Edited 11/12/12 15:57pm]

It's because Hollywood PAYS. You make a flop film - you still get paid and the studio has to accept the loss. You record a flop album, you owe the record company.

I'd say a 5-6. I think he has a good voice but nothing amazing. He's just got a charming quality about him that is appealing to me. I'd love to see a new album from him but he's said that when he did his last two albums, he dedicated every waking moment to them which was fulfilling but extremely exhausting. He isn't a half-ass artist from what I see of him. He's not like a Rihanna who will release an album every year and he's even admitted that he can't release an album every year like some artists do because he becomes to obsessed with the project to just push it off after a few months. Justin dedicated almost 2 years to FSLS between promoting it and touring. Sometimes it's not just about quantity; it's about quality and he strives to release quality material unlike some of these 'artists' nowadays. Personally, I don't think he's a terrible actor at all but his true place is in music.

Justin is an asshole... He dissed Janet and even dissed his own bandmates.
His voice is average best, dime a dozen along with those other MJ clones. Timbaland/Pharrell is why he was successful music wise. His first album was good (not great, but good) I could care less if he ever releases another album though

for me, it's just a lack of interesting humanity - i guess individuality.
i just don't think the pretty boy from the mickey mouse club has had a real human experience, so his voice doesn't convey anything to me.
Which is not a fair criticism, i admit.
Also, I think me being a white guy, about justin's age, has a lot to do with it. I suspect that a lot of people who hate, say, Beyonce, are her demographic (young, black, female), and they recognize the falseness on display. Whereas a white boy like me just melts.

interesting take. I kind of agree that he reminds me of myself just a little bit, and so I feel like I can see how phony he is sometimes.
However, I don't agree that he doesn't have a real human experience. I think he maybe just doesn't know how to express his own personal one. He only knows how to copy someone else's. My Legacy

The voice is the weakest aspect of his music. Of course, I have no real idea what else he has really contributed to the songs. I can appreciate the quirkiness of the second album, but I'm not sure if he just told Timbaland "make it weird" or something like that.
I think a lot of pop singers from the same period that started out singing at an early age have that sort of voice that sounds like a teenager's. Seems like the mannerisms they employ during that age end up dominating their voices all their lives.
Some of you might even remember this Finnish pop/rock band from the couple of international hits they had in the early-00s. The lead singer is about 33 in this:

Don't think he's an excellent singer, but I agree hist two albums are among the best of the 00's. When his debut single came out (Like I Love You) I had that on repeat for days, l-o-v-e-d the live drums on that one.
I also saw him in concert on his Futuresx/Lovesounds tour and it was one of the best "big" shows I've ever been to. Fantastic band and singers and a very entertaining show. The dvd/blu ray of that show is excellent as well.

yeah I meant both timbaland and neptunes, in fact I bought justin's albums for them, not for him...I couldn't care less about that puppet, though he did win me over when being the tool he is on SNL...I like him better when he's not taking himself seriously

I agree, I didn't want to support him when futuresex came out cause of the janet thing and his mj disses, but ended up loving the album so much that I bought a secondhand copy

If he were any more average they would start calling him the letter 'C'

When he's doing his best Prince rip like on his FutureSex CD he's pretty good Outside of that he is just another boy band reject The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

The main one I remember was during the promo for his debut album. Not so much a diss as a complete snub to his influence. He claimed that he was influenced by James Brown, Frank Sinatra, fucking Radiohead and even Janet, but came out and said that he only liked Off The Wall & Thriller and had little to no interest in anything Michael after that... despite half of his album sounding like a Dangerous rip with a Bad image.
I wish I could find the quotes but it was all over various TV and red carpet snippets at the time. MJ fans really hated him for that. It would be like MJ denying his own influences which he never ever did.

He also dissed MJ during the molestation trial, again, something along the lines of not being associated with him. JT is a punk. And one that can't sing.

Sounds like what he did to Janet too. Running away at the slightest hint of controversy. I always viewed him as a PR puppet with no real opinions.
His singing voice is annoying, but I did like SexyBack.

Noooooooo Justin how could yooouuuuuu I think I'd rather look at the big picture though. As far as I can remember he did mention MJ's influence later maybe in 2006/7 when he compared Justifed to MJ and Futuresex to Prince and Bowie - but that doesn't matter either. Basically only diehard Timberlake fans care who he says his musical influence are or what his personal favorite albums are, etc. No one with ears would associate Sinatra or Radiohead with 'Justified'. Whatever he may have said in interviews or however he feels about MJ as a person, it's hard to deny his entire music career reflects MJ's influence and legacy (I bet ppl who don't even like MJ know him as a MJ wannabe) and that can't possibly be a detrimental thing to MJ... And I can tell you guys another thing. When I was a big N'Sync/Justin fan I just thought of MJ as an eccentric popstar and didn't care to really listen to his music (this is when I was like 12/13...) BUT even then I knew of him as this "legend" guy who was well respected in music industry. Justin and his 'Nsync friends did do the MJ introduction for RocknRoll hall of fame after all. And who can forget his OMG I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S U <3 <3 <3 look on his face when he danced with MJ on VMA lol.
...Not that any of this should even matter when you listen to his music though. [Edited 11/13/12 16:15pm]
