Artists you want to be a fan of, but you are not.

Situation: The artist, who you respect and who makes music that usually you like ... just does not do IT for you. You try to listen to music and find it quite interesting, but you can not really feel the affection. neutral

Rolling Stones.. huge rock band, has a big impact. I am a rock-oriented girl .... apparently we are the perfect couple .... but I just do not take their music. I have tried many times, but I like no more than 5-6 songs.
Led Zeppelin... similar situation to the RS

Stevie Wonder .... he's a genius and I love him almost as a family member, but I would hardly name at least 10 songs that really love.

Syd Barrett ... the father of my favorite band, but I really prefer Pink Floyd without him.

Michael Jackson. Janet is my favorite artist ever but I only like a handful of his songs despite numerous attempts to get into his work.

I really wanted to like David Bowie because he seems so cool. But I could never really get into him

Stevie

Luther

Ray Charles

Stephanie Mills

Robin Thicke

The Supremes/Diana Ross

Janet Jackson

Mariah Carey

Celine Dion

They all have songs I like, but that's where it stops for me. I'm just not emotionally invested in them like I am other artists.

Elvis Costello- I Tried hard as hell... i mean really hard to dig costello. He is one of those critical darlings... but i could not get into him. His music is just kind of blah for me

The Grateful Dead- Another band i tried my hardest to like, but simply put this is music to smoke pot lol , that's all i can think of when i hear there songs.. i find a lot of the material just boring & repitive.

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

Celine Dion (in the '90s I almost consider wanting to buy one of her albums that had come out pre-My Heart Will Go On but decided against it; I admire her vocally though)

Mariah Carey (same reasoning though I did buy some of her albums, I couldn't get into them fully)

The Beatles (some great music but I couldn't. I tried though)

Elton John (same thing as with the Beatles)

Freddie Jackson

Anita Baker (love some of her music - especially between I Just Want to Be Your Girl and Body and Soul but not so much that I was like stanning or fanning over her)

Labelle (the group)

Stevie Wonder

Black Keys

Red Hot Chili Peppers ( I know these guys are class, but i just can't get into their sound, it's got kind of a dry desert feel i find quite depressing)

[Edited 10/29/12 15:14pm]

The Beatles - Some great songs but most of them are jarred by the fact that I can't stand their singing voices.

I find myself a fan of 1967-1976 Stevie than the Stevie afterwards. It's like two different people. neutral I dig the Red Hots but yeah I'm not a big fan of them either.

Wasn't Richard tossed up on cocaine and booze during that period? Makes sense. lol I love Hendrix the guitarist but his vocals left a lot to the imagination. That said, I dig Hendrix a whole lot more. smile

really? i'm a huge fan of both... and idk.

I think Jimi had a strong voice imo... but people always say he wasn't that great a singer. I think he had a strong passionate voice to match the guitar cool

And i know he got da ladies with both to razz

The first artist that comes to mind is David Bowie! Although, I have his Let's Dance album and enjoy it I really feel like I want to get into his earlier stuff but can't seem to connect to it. I just downloaded Low so we'll see what happens with that....other artists include

The Rolling Stones

Janelle Monae

Erykah Badu

I didn't become a fan of Bowie myself until recently. And I realize why people fawn over him. I mean I've always admired him for his fashion and some of his music but after hearing much of it, I dig him.

George was definitely the better of the four. Paul was a vocal tryhard IMHO.

Most of the time if I can't find their voice favorable I find it hard to get really into the artist even when I like their composition - Stevie, Queen, etc.

EDIT...I edited to make it more relevant to the OP's original question.

[Edited 10/29/12 16:27pm]

I exaggerated a little about the family member, lol
but I have great sympathy for Stevie, I like him much more than many artists, which I refer to as "the most favourite." For example, I love Prince as an artist, but I'm not fond of his personal qualities, I am horrified by some actions of Michael too, Axl Rose generally unpleasant person, confused but I love the music of these dudes. Stevie is the opposite. Sympathy is irrational, I do not know any of them personally, but I feel that way. wink

--------------

Oh, David Bowie. Actually, I consider myself a casual fan, I like a lot of his songs, but still he is not in my top 20 ... I think that it's had more potential. cool

-------------
I love Paul's voice . yes
