When I used to hear their most catchy and simplistic songs like "Yellow Submarine" I used to find their voices irrating and sorta resented the fact that they could possibly have made the best music the world's seen.

But that soon changed.... As soon as I invested 10 mintues to listen to Abbey Road, Ive been hooked ever since.

I recommend "Greatest Hits Vol. 2" as a good Dylan entry point. The songs sound more modern, and his singing voice is the most normal. He almost sounds like Tom Petty.

"No Direction Home", the documentary from 06, is another good one.

For Madonna, it has to be "The Immaculate Collection". I'd recommend playing it loud, as opposed to headphones, and seeing if it doesn't make your ass move.

What about 'You Never Give Me Your Money', 'Something', 'Oh Darling!' 'Here There And Everywhere' (GREAT Harmonies on that) and also 'Because', 'I want You (She's So Heavy), Yesterday, Help!.

(Off the top of my head) These are all great vocals and I implore you to listen to them again; even though you've probably heard them countless times....

But regardless, their voices were never their strong points anyway.

Lennon and Mcartney arent the GREATEST singers in the world but calling them horrible is a big exaggeration.

I think one of the reasons why Lennon is a good singer is because of the emotion he displayed when he singed and Mcartney, personality in his voice he displayed.

With Dylan, its mainly his voice. I think the guy's a great lyricist but his voice irritates the heck out of me. Also when it comes to his music, i would prefer that it had a little more meat on the bone.

A few of the songs i do like from him though are Masters of War, House of the Rising, Idiot Wind and MotorPsyco Nightmare.

But i respect when people say they don't like his music much, but like his lyrics. His voice can an aquired taste.

Maybe you should try his nashville skyline album, the famous song from that one is lay lady lay. His voice is a lot different on that one, you like it

probably Beck. the one album of his I like from start to finish is The Information which might sound weird to his fans being it arrived later into his career but I find it to be his most accessible.

that surly isn't to say I didn't like anything from him at all prior to that, it's just as far as full-length albums are concerned.

In the Sweden thread, I said The Cardigans. But only because I haven't spent any time yet investigating their music. And that would be the case with any artist of which I'd want to be a fan, but aren't. If something about a band turns me off like vocals for example then I don't want to be a fan.

Recently I would say Mariah Carey- I've always respected her as an artist, liked her music back then, but now her music isn't all that good. The voice is there, but the music isn't.

Also you grow into things. I didn't really get Dylan until my upper 20's.

I got a PFunk greatest hits album when I was 21 and thought it was crap. Now I own everything they've ever done, and am always discovering more.

Me too. When I was a kid my older brother listened the shit out of them and it simply drove me nuts.

However, once I actually took the time to really listen to the music and not the voices, and especially after I got a degree in music production, I can definitely understand their genius.

You got that right. I absolutely LOVE Little Richard and admire everything about him. That old bitch has got style and can talk some cash shit and flaunt it dead in your face with no shame. I can't think of anyone I'd like to hang out with more than his ass. But as far as his music goes, I've got a "Best Of" CD of his and that's all I have a desire for. I might play a few songs from it every blue moon when I get in the mood for them but as for going out and buying complete albums of his music, no I have no desire to become a full fledged "fan" of his music because it's not really my thing.
