^^Ah, yeah... and people love that song because of the lyrics... right.

It was Axl though who suggested to turn that riff into a song.

Chill dude i didn't say that's the reason people listen lol you are getting defensive razz

I'm just saying people act like Axl contributed little to the band, when in reality he pushed the band to have the piano, the orchestra, the southern etc.

And besides Sweet Child ''O'' Mine is so overplayed & overrated in guitar circles... GNR had so many better songs.

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

Excuse you, but Slash came up with the guitar notes for Sweet Child O' Mine long BEFORE Axl came up with the song lyrics. no no no!

but.... Axl still wrote the lyrics lol all of them for scom

which is there most overrated song anywho razz

Sweet Child O' Mine, overrated? No. Overplayed & overhyped? Yes.

Everyone knows that Paradise City is the real best track on the AFD album. It's one of those mosh pit classics that still works. wink

I'm biased cause i think Appetite For Destruction in general is overrated, great album(My faorite cut is Rocket Queen, with My Michelle rigth behind)

But to me Use Your Illusion is where the band shined, showing they could do much more then rock.......

GNR lies is also a little underrated, it's onyl a few original songs... but they are all good smile

I'm not defensive. I just have to speak out against the ridiculous notion that lyrics are responsible for the song being a success and people pretending that Axl was the reason for their success. And SCOM is not overrated. It's a unique sounding song that went beyond the rock genre and became a classic.

Now that is the song I would consider overrated and overplayed. Rocket Queen, Jungle, Nighttrain and It's so easy is where it's at.

And again you're wrong there. While I do like UYI and I'm glad that they released it the way they did, it still is the album(s) that feature many songs that are not quite as good as their greatest songs. It did expand their scope though, but AFD is a great album front to back, with a great dirty sound. An album you never really get tired off.

I don't really care as far as the "new album" is considered.

Most of the songs on CD seem to be from a period when the style of the previous albums and the past members still seemed to influence Axl's songwriting a lot. Some of the songs that were recorded later are not ("Sorry"), but they are in the minority. It sounds like the old GNR for the most part, just with some additional bells and whistles thrown in the mix. It's an early-90s, mid-90s style rock record.

I don't "accept" the new live line-up as GNR and it's starting to look like there won't be too many albums released anymore (Axl seems to be mostly interested in making money by doing shows).

They sort of look like a parody rock band to me anyway. lol

I like all three albums but Use Your Illusion is often unjustly slagged. Sure, it's messy but I have no trouble sitting through both albums back to back. Some songs are better than others but there are no terrible songs. Maybe having two versions of "Don't Cry" is unnecessary but that's about the only complaint I have. Even "My World" isn't that bad. What is it, ninety seconds long?

I think they deserve a ton of credit for being so ambitious and keeping the quality high. In the vinyl era Use Your Illusion would have been four albums. That's a lot of material to release all at once.

^^Yeah, like I said. I'm glad they released it the way they did. But with releasing 30 songs at once there's bound to be some songs that would otherwise never make it on the album and don't live up to the best material. That said, the weaker songs dilluted the effort and made AFD the better and more consistant album of the two (or three).

The somewhat perfect 1 disc album (using the max. capacity of a CD) probably would have looked something like this:

Right Next Door to Hell (Axl Rose, Izzy Stradlin, Timo Caltia) - 3:00
Live and Let Die (Paul McCartney, Linda McCartney) - 2:59 (Originalinterpret: Wings)
Don’t Cry (Izzy Stradlin, Axl Rose) - 4:40 (Original Version)
Perfect Crime (Slash, Izzy Stradlin, Axl Rose)- 2:23
Back Off Bitch (Axl Rose, Paul Huge) - 5:03
Double Talkin' Jive (Izzy Stradlin) - 3:23
November Rain (Axl Rose) - 8:56
Coma (Slash, Axl Rose) - 10:16
Civil War (Slash, Duff McKagan, Axl Rose) - 7:36
14 Years (Izzy Stradlin, Axl Rose) - 4:17
Pretty Tied Up (Izzy Stradlin) - 4:46
So Fine (Duff McKagan) - 4:04
Estranged (Axl Rose) - 9:10
You Could Be Mine (Izzy Stradlin, Axl Rose) - 5:48

But then there would still be some texture missing. So, like I said, while it diluted the album, I'm still glad it was released the way it was released. Oh, and "My world" is bad.

^^ You see, that's why the Use Your Illusion albums could never be made into one disc. Where's Locomotive? Where's Breakdown? Alongside Estranged, those are the strongest cuts from UYI2 and there is no way they could sit on the same album as November Rain and Coma, as it would have five tracks all 7-10minutes in length.

The UYI albums simply had to be two seperate albums and whilst neither are as consistant as AFD, both albums reach moments of brilliance unparalleled before or since.

Yeah! I almost included "Locomotive", but didn't because of the reasons you listed. I also don't think the song is as relevant as the ones I picked... they could have put it on the follow up to UYI though. wink

Just imagine if Axl made CD the planned 3 cd set confused now THAT would be messy.

I think Chinese works very well as one cd, although i felt cheated when i heard he was making a single cd....... it worked a lot better.
