That doesnt prove anything, he proved that he was a good live singer numerous of times and I highly doubt someone like Freddie would have to lip sing being he didnt do high energy dancing/choregraphy like MJ did.

he had a hard time sometimes, especially in the 90's, but only from 1979 to 1981, he gave with The Jacksons more than 200 live shows. In my opinion, even this is enough to evaluate his vocal.

Around the time of her last album coming out Courtney Love (I know I know) was asked about her promotion and touring for the album and she mentioned how she wasn't looking forward to touring the states because American audiences expected too much from their performers, saying that a strong performance wasn't enough but that you had to give a part of your soul to satisfy them. I suppose it's like when Nicole Kidman did "Moulin Rouge" and the rumor was going around that she gave everything to that role short of setting herself on fire.

Do we expect too much from our live performers as Ms. Love suggests?

the guy HATED the stage, and there are videos out there which transmit that hate

IMHO, my top five showmen list (in popular music only, that is) includes James, MJ, Prince, Robert Plant and Freddie in that order.

These were the five that came into my head.

Robert Plant's voice is haunting whilst Freddie's stage prescence is mesmerizing.

James Brown and MJ are simply effortless and Prince, well Prince is the ultimate performer.

I envy those who got to see people like James Brown and Tina Turner live.

I consider Whitney to be a great performer/showman. She wasn't much of a dancer, but she could could perform her ass off.

Comparing Freddy Mercury to Michael Jackson is like comparing...Freddy Mercury to Michael Jackson.

They are too different to compare. Michael was the lead singer in a group before he became a solo artist. Freddie was the front man of a rock band. Two entirely different positions that have similarities, but even more differences. There is (was) definitely room for both.

For those who dont know Freddie Mercury is an Indian who grew up in africa( zanzibar island in tanzania)

Freddie Mercury was a tremendous showman but when you start talking about "of all time" to me that means someone who is influential too. I can see James Brown and Michael Jackson in so many artists who "attempt" to be great showmen. To help me understand the impact of Freddie Mercury can someone list the artists whose stage performance he has influenced? I am sure there are many I have not taken the time to study live. Thanks
