OMG...The Jacksons vs. Bobby Brown Okay, just turned to VH1 Soul a minute ago and saw this video that I've never seen before below:
Jacksons (minus MJ) - "Nothin' Compares 2 U"
Which sounds strangely similar to:
Bobby Brown - "On Our Own"
Anyone else hear it? I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

They are cut from the same Babyface template, I do like Bobby's song better. Jeux Sans Frontiers

oh yeah, I hear it........lolll
that beat in the background.......
dooo, doo
dooo....dooo, doooo
doooooo....doo...doooo
yeah, Nuthin Compares to you was released in early 1989
Bobby Brown's "On Your Own" was released that summer.......
that's why I say, the Jacksons brothers were doing their own thing and were making great music in their own right.....
both were working Babyface and LA Reid during that time...
and then Randy released his debut solo album the summer of 1989 w/his group "Randy and the Gypsies" and his song "Perpetrators" became the top requested song for urban radio stations

I always thought On Our Own and After 7's In the Heat Of The Moment were first cousins. Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

A lot of the songs LA & Babyface produced sounded similar to me. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

The video for The Jackson's song is a rip-off of MJ's The Way you make Me feel if you really look @ it too. الحيوان النادلة ((((|̲̅̅●̲̅̅|̲̅̅=̲̅̅|̲̅̅●̲̅̅|)))) ...AND THAT'S THE WAY THE "TITTY" MILKS IT!

I totally agree. الحيوان النادلة ((((|̲̅̅●̲̅̅|̲̅̅=̲̅̅|̲̅̅●̲̅̅|)))) ...AND THAT'S THE WAY THE "TITTY" MILKS IT!

Both of THOSE^ tracks also sound like THIS one:
Pebbles -- Giving You The Benefit

KEY WORDS: chord progressions
L.A. & Babyface found the chords that work so well within one track for one artist that they continue to used THE same chord progressions as a way of getting over when making a new track for other artist.
Stock Aiken Waterman used to do the same thing for the artists they make tracks for.
Jam & Lewis were guilty of this as well.
And even R.Kelly.

Here's a couple more LA/Face soundalikes. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

and this is why I contend, and the proof is in the pudding
real r&b presentation began to be phased out in the late 1980s, specifically in 1987
Rock Steady was released in 1987, the same year the pop ascension movement was introduced on the scene....
and you could see it taking place,
Paula Abdul's "Knocked out" was released in 1988, when the age of video entered a transition where pop began to incorporate r&b elements w/out representing the origin of the influence, making it appear as if this new image came out the sky blue but it really didn't.....
what happened was, these producers would test new sounds w/established r&b acts, and once they mastered that sound, they would incorporate it w/new acts who they felt could be more viable for the age of video.....

I have to agree. That video was pretty terrible and let's not even get started on the cheesy dancing. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

If I remember correctly, a then unknown choreographer called Rosie Perez initially worked on that video before getting fired, and thanks to that she worked with Spike Lee on "do the right thing" and the rest was history as they say. Something like that anyway.
As for the song "nothin'", I like it alot. I alsways go for the extended version though. I dig the guitar solo too.
