In no order, and excluding Org namesake: Hendrix, Montgomery, Santana, Becker, and I'm leaving a ton of folk out.

Been listening to some of the early George Benson records. His playing really got overshadowed by his fame and his pop records.

i was at a garage sales last year and happened upon this vinyl recording. this is a great complilation of songs, on columbia records. he was great, as well as a point on influence to many of todays musicians, aka:bluesmen. (he died at 27yrs) imo robert johnson was a wonderful gift to music. 'cross road blues' recording inspired the production of the movie 'crossroads' starring ralph macchio and joe seneca. rycooder and steve vai did the music score (steve vai actually performed in the movie). imo, steve vai rocked and ry cooder rolled via the movie's score. while it's not one of the greatest movies in the world, it is worth watching. the movie presents an eye opening factional overview of a small portion of the (near true) history of the root sounds of music via robert johnson. the movie lends a listen to robert johnson's style of music and the importance of his contributions to today's music. robert johnson was one of the original and very important/inspirational american bluesman. He's such a straightforward player. Not revolutionary, not particularly innovative. He doesn't really do anything to impress you, but he plays in the way that serves the song best. He's extremely versatile. He's also able to do simple things that convey intense emotions. And he's able to come up with new sounds that are not gimmicky.
I have listened to Stadium Arcadium regularly since it came out, and it's staying power is largely due to his playing. My Legacy

likewise...his playing and his harmonies make what would otherwise be a very mediocre record extremely pleasant to listen to. | |
