Yeah 4 or 5 times... it's ridiculous at this point. No one can compete with the Judy version, which wasn't even the original anyway.

Out of billions of young folk in the world, you're saying they all heard of Beyonce and like her. There's people who never heard of Michael Jackson and that's about as big as you can get. lol How do you know the ages of anyone on this site? Did they tell you, or you're assuming that because someone likes older music that they're "old age" and "living in the past" or that all older people only listen to old music. If that's the case, what are you doing on a Prince site? I don't think he's young and he hasn't had a popular record since the early 1990's. lol

Beyonce is a tremendous star indeed, but she cannot act her way out of a paper bag, and to compare her to an Academy Award winning actress/director of Streisand's caliber is laughable.

Damned laughable, indeed. martini

I'm all in favor of a re-imagining of A Star is Born under the direction of Eastwood. Her dropping out is advantageous because the role begs for an actress with resonant gravitas, and Beyonce isn't that actress.

I saw some out takes from the Judy version during the scene where she was dressed for a performance, talking about her husband's downward spiral- it was so intense eek , and then the director yells "take!", & she just jumped up and went merrily along like she didn't just drag us into that emotional tornado with her: that level of acting chops damn near scared the shit out of me---I didn't know whether to be astonished at what she could pull out of herself then turn off, or be mad because as soon as it was a "take", she just snapped out of the zone like she was changing the color of her socks and left it right there where she had been sitting, and meanwhile I'm still stuck looking at the TV not knowing WTF to do with my emotions! mad lol

This is the full version of the scene "How do you count the days?" aka "Love isn't enough"...just imagine her stopping dead center in the middle of this and just ready have a cigarette or something- They coulda passed her some salt& vinegar potato chips and she could start eating them right there like nothing happened 2 minutes before when she was crying lol

pop culture, art and pop art is of its time.

you can list all the music of christmas past, but they mean nothing! now.

keep it moving or stay in the past

POP music is meant for its time, after 15 minutes its done.

go on all you want but there is nothing 'classic' about your duran duran, Madonna and pop records of days gone by,

dated production of its time, which only sounds good because of 'your memories'

A Christmas Carol/Scrooge has been done dozens of times (maybe hundreds), as movies, plays, cartoons, and as a plot in TV shows too. Then there's the endless films about Jesus Christ.

You sure speak negatively about things for someone talking about "hating". It's not that serious. This topic isn't about Duran Duran and Madonna or pop records at all. It's about a movie and Duran Duran don't make movies. So I'm not sure why you brought them up. Not everyone listens to pop music in the first place. There's other types of music out there. Pop doesn't mean anything, it's just short for "popular music", which could mean anything.

You sound like a 5 year old lol Half the people on this site are under 25. Just because Beyonce is a popular star now doesnt mean that her music is quality. Rihanna has more hits than her and musically is more popular so is Rihanna this generation Madonna? Your reasoning is off and your arguement is childish. If you like Beyonce that is you, but there is no sense in being disrespectful just because people have a differ opinion than you.

O and I can name 5 artists on my hand right now that eclipses Beyonce in talent and music... popularity does mean a got damn thing please get eduated youngin O and by the way I am 20 neutral

What does that have to do with Clint Eastwood or A Star Is Born? I haven't seen anyone in this thread mention Beyonce's music. I've seen some comments saying she couldn't act, and you said you're not familiar with her acting. So how can you rate if she's good or bad at it. As far as Madonna and Duran Duran goes, there were people back then who didn't like them (or even heard of them) and there's still people that don't like them. Folks made fun of Debbie Gibson all the time. People on this site speak negatively about Madonna constantly, so I'm not sure of your point about that.

I think your vitriol against people on this board is over the top.

If you're so blissfully unaware of her acting history, how can you make the argument that she's an actress of measurable talent?

Popularity equals substance? Youth equals fresh and innovative? Hit records means she's capable of projecting a full range of emotions under the direction of a seasoned actor with modern masterpieces under his belt?

This has nothing to do with personal taste. This has to do with being a competent enough actress to carry the weight of the film, which Beyonce Knpwles is not. Not by a longshot. As I've always said, she is a huge star, a great music performer, and a very cute & sexy girl. However on film she is montone, one-dimensional in emotive qualities, and has the diction of a cartoon bovine chewing cud. Serious dramatic work is not her forte, and would best be left to someone who has the chops to do the work. martini

Yes she did...I find it amazing that despite everything she went through...her kids, man...they LOVE their mama. You can see it in their eyes when they speak about her; the reverence they have for her as "Mama" at least gives me the feeling that that's the one aspect of her life where she had enough control over, to love and give herslef to her children in a way that they hang onto it for dear life even though she's long been gone. nod
