Tina Turner's cover of Baby, I'm A Star

I am the webmaster of a fan blog about Tina Turner, and recently we did a post about Tina's cover of Prince's Baby, I'm A Star. She recorded the song in 2000, and it was even part of an advertisement campaign for Target stores. During her 2000 Twenty Four Seven tour, the song was also performed by her backing vocalists as a musical interlude during one of the costume changes.

If you are interested, you can go to The Tina Turner Blog to listen to the song, and see how it was also used in television commercials: http://tinaturnerblog.com...es-a-star/. Curious to hear what you think about it!

Expected something better.

This song can be funky, but can go very Disney-like with the wrong background music.

Love her voice, but the music not so.

I dont mind Tina's version, imagined it would be more raw though?

Sorry to derail the thread but i've been WAITING for this song to turn up in a Shrek movie or a penquin movie.. *i would love it* it would be the most sensational awesome animated skit EVER.

lol

One minute they want peace……

Then do everything to make it go away. rolleyes

I agree with you, Tina's version is not bad, but it could have benefitted from better production. The song was actually produced by Ollie Marland, Tina's longtime keyboard player, and it appears to have been a rather hasty job 'in between shows'. And maybe it had to be 'family-friendly' because it was meant for an advertisement campaign. Whatever the reason, not a bad song choice, but the production could have been better.

Maybe, Tina's version of Let's Pretend We're Married is more what you would expected from her: wild and rough! She performed this song nightly during her 1984/1985 Private Dancer tour, and it was released as a b-side for her Show Some Respect single. A great version is available on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/wa...Y9a-GUzQY4.
