Artists in this ArticleThe Beatles
Beatles fans, dust off your record players. The band's original studio album remasters, which were released on CD and iTunes to much fanfare in 2009 and 2010, will make their stereo vinyl debuts on November 13 as part of an elaborate box set.
The titles include the band's 12 original U.K. studio albums, as well as the U.S. version of "Magical Mystery Tour," and "Past Masters, Volumes One & Two." The Beatles' first four albums have never been released in North America in stereo on vinyl.
Each 180-gram album will be available for individual purchase, or fans can own one of 50,000 copies of the box set, which will be housed in a retro travel case and include a 252-page book by radio producer Kevin Howlett. There will be chapters dedicated for each album, plus rare photos and audiophile-geared details about how the vinyl records were prepared.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Going by the average price of 180 gram records, I imagine this will be around $300. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

The Fab Four's catalog of albums -- including those titles not part of the stereo reissue series -- sold a combined 626,000 units in the U.S. the first week they were reissued on CD in 2009, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The biggest seller of the reissue series that week was 1969's "Abbey Road," which moved 89,000 copies and debuted at No. 1 on the Top Pop Catalog Albums chart. The "Stereo" and "Mono" boxed sets debuted at Nos. 15 and 40, respectively, on the Billboard 200.
In 2010, the band's catalog was released on iTunes. That year they sold a total of 1.7 million albums. In 2011: 1.2 million. Year to date 2012: 544,000.

So I get home from work yesterday and there is a box from Amazon.com waiting for me on my front step. I was like... wha? I didn't order anything from Amazon.
Lo and behold... it's the Beatles vinyl box, sent to me for my birthday (which is on Thanksgiving) by a friend who comes to my DJ gigs and is a fellow lover of music. To say I was blown away is an understatement.
It's unbelievably beautiful. The book is gorgeous, the reproductions of the cover art is perfect and they are all presented as originally released. Magical Mystery Tour contains the book, the White Album has the poster. It's fabulous. And the sound is immaculate..... utterly amazing. Incredible clarity and warmth. The bass just pops. Especially listening to the early stuff, the improvement is remarkable.
I'm in bliss. SUCH a nice set. The Beatles' legacy is being carefully protected and I couldn't be more thrilled with this package. * * *

I'll pass. Not so. The book contained in the box provides very detailed technical information about the remastering and the process behind the vinyl pressings. Fascinating to read. No expense spared; they were very carefully pressed from the original masters * * *

I saw the box set in a record store today. They had it on sale for $429.99 with a regular price of $499.99. The individual albums varied in price, mainly on whether they were single/double LPs, but they all had new release discounts. _ Yep, original stereo is a huge mistake. The mono mixes are almost completely superior. Too bad they won't remix the whole catalog like they did for the Yellow Submarine Songbook and the Rock Band game. "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis
