Ian McCulloch reissues

Ian McCulloch, lead singer of Echo and The Bunnymen is set to release remastered editions of his three solo albums in September. Not sure how many fans there are here, but these look pretty tasty.

We're here, might as well get into it.

Definately worth checking out, all the albums are very good, and all pretty even in terms of quality.

I like Candleland. He toned down the shrieking and howling that popped up on a lot of the Echo records and crooned quite nicely. Not that I didn't enjoy the shrieking Ian, but it was pleasant to find him dialing it back a touch. Some of the synths sounded dated to me even at the time, but overall a really good, solid record. The title track in particular was a favourite of mine, and Liz Fraser's vocals added a lot to it IMO.

Mysterio never really made an impression on me. I can't recall any specific songs, just a general feeling of overall blandness, tracks that wafted by without leaving an impression. I've had it sitting in with a stack of discs I've been planning on attempting to sell for quite some time.

Spot on about Candleland. I also really like the dreamy quality it has, reminds me quite a lot of The Cure's Disintegration album. Mysterio i actually really like as well, definately a much harder sound though, far more poppy, there's some nice tunes on there...

Recieved Candleland yesterday, very nice. Comes in a 2cd jewel case, lyrics included & and short 2 page essay on album. B-Sides sound pretty good, fit in with dreamy mood of album nicely. Only negative is that i wish they hadn't have put 5 mixes of Faith and Healing in a row, grates too much. Overrall impressive package though.
