No offense to Nas, but all day, everyday, it has to be Rakim.

My vote goes to Eric B & Rakim. They paved the way for people like Nas.

BOTH. true hip hop heads would love them both and never choose!!!

btw i feel as if u shouldn't compare solo artists and duos. either make it Rakim vs. Nas, but not Eric B & Rakim vs. Nas

@Scriptgirl.......And if you really want a better discussion thread, try Rakim VS KRS-ONE, Big Daddy Kane, and/or Melle Mel. wink

Agree the comparision is a little off....they need to be on the same level I think.

Nas is on that level. Melle Mel doesn't fit here. I don't care for KRS-1 but I respect his talent and can see him in the discussion. I'd have a hard time choosing between Big Daddy Kane, Rakim, and NAS so I won't. Throw Andre 3000 and Cube in there and you have my top 5 (this week lol ).

Nas is among the greatest MCs of all time as well. Rakim inspired many rappers but so has Nas. They both inspired each other, which they have stated in an interview they did some years back. They both admire and respect each other. The difference with Rakim and Nas, was that when Nas came out he rapped about EVERYTHING, there was nothing that was sacred. In my opinion this is the story of the teacher being surpassed by the student, yes Rakim influenced the genre greatly and that won't ever be forgotten but Nas has shown more quality albums, creativity, and diverse subjects discussed. In rap versatility is very important and Nas has done it all. It's interesting that the best mcs have some type of connection with Jazz music cool

I know I was speaking on ERA differences not necessarily level... maybe comparing a MC from Rakim eras with the same impact...
