thiis forum: MUSIC: Non-Prince.

I was just wondering
if we could split this forum into:

Other Artists - Gossip

and

Other Artists - Music

I check this forum to find out what people think of the new David Byrne album, the new Dylan, Beck, Ben Harper etc.

and mostly what I see is threads titled: lady gaga is now fat!,
Rihanna gets beaten up, again! Mediocre rapper is making money!
I really don't want to know about this stuff.
Gossip n music are two different things. Why not put them in two different forums?

Reasonable request, or what?
C'mon.

small circles, big wheels!
I've got a pretty firm grip on the obvious!

Very reasonable and something I have been saying all along but then you have to hear shit frpm people claiming that this is seniorcitizenship.org and all that bullshit... this is a MUSIC site not a gossip site.

Thats true to but this is a MUSIC site firstly and if that is the case the forum should be broken up into two. One talking about music and one gossiping about artists/musicians.

thanks for the supportive post, buddy.

I've nothing other people gossiping. I just think the two subjects should be split. No exclusions, I think people would get more of what they want, and faster.

no prob wink ...Agree..... its really annoying. If people want to talk about that shit they need to go to their forums or on gossip sites. It really lessens the credibility of the site and the nature of it.

But to please orgers who want to talk about it, I think a another sub forum should be made that focuses on artists but the gossip aspect.

I think we share the same sentiments.
I wouldn't call anything "shit" though, even though it annoys me. Some people need to talk about that stuff. Let's just get it changed.

you want an answer? ok, here's my answer

-the crappy artists are releasing tons of music these days, and the Music: Non-Prince forum also has tons of very young orgers (unlike the Prince forum or the GD forum)

-the veteran artists (the backbone of the Non-Prince forum) are not releasing a lot of music these days, and when they do, the results are... blah at best; personally, I didn't even know that Mr.Byrne had released a new album; and people are just tired of talking about the same 68-99 albums all over again...

-for good new music (mostly semi-underground), check out Timmy's New Music thread wink

I dont think that is the arguement here....

I think the poster is saying that it seems more gossip is being done here more so than exactly MUSIC discussion whether its old or new.

That really isnt a good excuse or reason.

What does older artists not producing new music have to do with people gossiping when there is a thread dedicated to new music?

I think several people have put forth the idea of creating another forum for... Gossip, Gossip and More Gossip but nothing has happened.

I'm all for it, too each his or her own but because this forum has gotten away from talking about music a lot people have stepped. Our loss... neutral I'm all for creating another place for people to talk about who's screwing who or whatever.

We could also do somethings in this forum to help it along such as...

1. Start off having " Org Mix-Tapes" with fixed dates. Twice a year (every 6 months): It may give people the incentive to know a specific date/month so they have the time create a tape.

2. Alternative to "Org Mix-Tape" we should see if setting up a date... once a month, every other month, or every two months were members could showcase their music via a podcast. As VainAndy used to do on Sunday's for an example.

3. Since music has moved from the radio to the net, it could be fun to tell use what music stations have you've discovered (anywhere in the world) playing good music. Or, share any App, Blog or Websites that some music enthusiast has created, talking about all things music.

4. It would help if we'd "open" up some of these threads on this forum and read them... get out of our comfort zone. We do have some great folks creating some interesting threads that just slide down the forum scale.

There's no reason my Timmy's thread "New Music" should remain a sticky all ways. Since we whined and bitch (me) about where's the new music. We could at least open up his thread and listen to what's being offered. You don't have to like and you can say why you do or don't.

I have every intentions of putting a better foot forward and taking my own advice. biggrin

There s no reason for this forum to suck.

I dont see a problem with people talking about gossip and music. I mean that's what we do on the Prince forum as well, people talk about his new glasses, his fro, his affairs with women or whatever else they want to talk about. There should be more focus on the music but people love drama. lol

Yeah I'm for a gossip only section too. Gossip shouldn't be integrated into music discussions. lol

Please, stay on subject.

Some like to gossip
Some like to talk new and old music.

Neither 1 is objectively better than the other

2 completely different things,
if we could just have them separated into 2 different forums it would make the org a more enjoyable site for many of us, and many more in the future.

It can't be that difficult to do.

Exactly. Obviously the gossip threads are more popular. The mods need to have a gossip only board for this forum and learn how to separate the two. Like if someone posts about a music artist's personal problems, post it there. Then we have the music thread where music is discussed (and just that) and anything beyond that (like blind items and stuff) can be posted on the gossip page.

Thanks Timmy . That's all I'm trying to say.

To be able to go straight to the other artists' music,

Or to the gossip thread would be a vast improvement!

but the gossip threads are popupar because NEW MAINSTREAM artists are popular

truly, it's a wheel: younger orgers -> new mainstream artists -> frantic SOCIALITE activities of these new mainstream artists -> gossip threads

old artists -> chilling in their mansions -> new "ok" album every 4-5 years -> tumbleweed

that's what I was talking about; and I guess other folks start gossip threads here because the gossip is about a musician/singer, old or new (ex: Springsteen and Patti may divorce)

I think that the GD forum would be a nice/natural place for music gossip since it already offers gossip about movie stars and other celebrities...

True but it seems a lil bit more balanced, it ain't broke don't include something that could break it; we need a gossip forum.

I doubt it would work, because people are going to be discussing gossip-y stuff on threads dedicated to music as well. It seems to be the case that people often start discussing the artists' personal lives on just about any thread (applies also to people like Marvin, Miles, Jimi and not just contemporary pop artists like Rihanna).

Some of the "real" music threads here aren't much of an improvement over the gossip stuff in any case (there's been recently fairly irrelevant bullshit like a really short lo-fi clip of Christina Aguilera's new single posted here, etc.).

I think the right choice at this point could be just to ask the orgers not to flood the forum with threads that aren't really about music and are just about the personal lives of the artists. Perhaps there could be a similar "blinking text" notification about it as there is about bootlegs in the main forum.

Subforums within sections are already relatively common on other sites, such as Lipstick Alley. It's the most efficient way to filter related topics.

Musical Artists : Non-Prince (main section)

Music (subforum within main section)

Gossip (subforum)

Interviews (subforum)

Photos (subforum)

You could come into Music: Non-Prince... then, look for the subforum u want.

The latest threads for the overall section would show threads from all subs, but if you were irritated, you could just immediately filter by clicking on the music subforum.

I think expanding with new sections or moving the gossip would be way more confussing and muddled than simply filtering.

Only 6 of the first 100 threads in this forum could be categorized as tabloid-like in subject matter and content. Hardly enough to warrant the creation of a new subforum. I intend to do my part and leave those types of postings in Off-Topic.

Timmy's New Music thread series continues to offer the best in under- the -radar music and yet it's ignored by almost everyone, including some who voice frustration over the lack of "new music". lol
