The Synth Thread

Can we share tunes with some of your favourite syntheses?

Here's Marvin Gaye improvising on his beloved ARP Odyssey:

After The Dance (Instrumental)

Against the ruin of the world, there
is only one defense: the creative act.

Kool!

well, to get this one out of the way-- I have to metion Bernie Worrell and his Moog, especially the stacked MiniMoog bassline :

But I also have to include the first Moog record I ever heard, as a child in preschool, back in 1969: "The Minotaur" , by Dick Hyman

Dick Hyman - "Alfie"

I think Dilla would later use this track for his cut, "Won't Do"

I don't know exactly which specific gear appears on the tracks below, though i guess that some of them could be the Korg Poly 6, Moog Liberator, Oberheim OBX-8, Sequential Circuits Prophet V, etc...

1980 - Additional fills with his customized Coultron synth.

1980 - Larry "Seawind" Williams doing a solid solo and synth fills throughout this groove.

1982 - Insane jam and solo @ 2:30!

1982 - former Blackbyrd going wild around 3:27. Collaborative jam with bass dog Aaron Mills from Cameo. Horns, drums and guitar fills are tight as well.

1983 - Same synth sound as in Kevin Toney's track above.

1983

1992 - Some newjack funk. Chuckii programmed some multi-layered sounds which gives this weird and tweaked vibe at moments. That whole album received a great review in keyboard magazine back then.

A few songs from the Happy Moog LP (by Jacques Perrey and Harry Breuer):

Then of course there's this (w/ ARP2500 or 2600):

Youtube's full of great synth demos these days, like this one:

Ha, his latest one is Shokazulu!

You've got me going Kaidi-hunting this evening. Been listening to his latest material and reading some interviews. Apparently, Herbie's classic Chameleon was his biggest influence, and it's more than appropriate to post it up here:

When I saw his profile, I thought it was Shaun Martin, the cat that did the killer moog solo on the Snarky Puppy's Thing of Gold.
