Definitely deserves to be among the best of the best when it comes to synth play. I've been following Opolopo since his earlier days of remixes, especially the Michael Jackson ones:

Still my favourite Rock With You rework.

We had a modern boogie thread a while back, he also deserves to be in that one too. So much funk goodness.

Against the ruin of the world, there
is only one defense: the creative act.

My first intro to synthesizers! Dad gave it to us little kids to listen to...took us to strange imaginative places... smile

"There and Back" is still my favorite Jeff Beck album--still can't get over this number with Jeff, Tony Hymas on Synth and Keys, and of course, Simon Phillips killin' the drum set:

All hail The Prophet!

James Blake on Dave Smith's Prophet '08 over some deliciously swung beats.

In similar fashion (with the same gorgeous brass-esque tone), here's Radiohead's Everything from their 2000 album Kid A:

He's badass for sure.

Actually like the MJ remix and I generally can't stand remixes.

I'll third that.

I thought something magical had happened the first time I heard that record and especially after Evening Thoughts.

I remember an online radio show from some years back, where the dj played it as a mysterious track and in no time the radio studio was overloaded by phonecalls lol

A hallmark sound of 90s r&b, the gliding (pitch-bended) sine wave chord progression:

Jodeci - Gimme All You Got

That's produced by DeVante Swing who used this a lot. You can also see Brian Michael Cox messing about with it in this clip at 28 minutes in.

The originator of the sound is of course Stevie Wonder with the help of Cecil and Margouleff:

You And I

And back then they had to record each harmony separately since the ARP was monophonic.

Against the ruin of the world, there
is only one defense: the creative act.
