Barry Manilow ~ Could It Be Magic

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I always think of Barry as the Justin Bieber of the 70s. Though Barry has a much better voice.

I'm an unabashed Barry Manilow fan lol people say that his songs are syrupy and schmaltzy, but there is real melody in his songs! "Could It Be Magic" is one of his best.I love the haunting melody of the verses, and that long instrumental segment after the first chorus just kills me.Today's artists could never come up with something like this.

Still prefer the Take That version... and ashamedly Leona Lewis' when she sang it on X-Factor.

Donna Summer did an excellent version of this song in 1976.

From Wikipedia:

Manilow's recording begins and ends with an excerpt of Frédéric Chopin's Prelude in C Minor, Opus 28, Number 20. The whole song is based on the harmonic scheme of Chopin's prelude.

It was cut from the posted video, but on the DVD, Barry mentions this before starting the song.
