Pink Floyd Appreciation

I'm making a thread to appreciate one of my favorite all time bands, Pink Floyd! I remember my dad raising me on 3 albums: Prince's Purple Rain, Michael Jackson's HISTORY and Pink Floyd's The Wall. It was untill I was around 12 when I started to discover other Pink Floyd albums like Dark Side, Animals, Pipers at The Gate of Dawn, Saucerful of Secrets, etc. They are a timeless band, and are up with British rock acts like Queen, the BEatles, Led Zeppelin and the Stones.

They are lyrical and musical geniouses. Does anyone else on the org share the same appreciation towards Pink Floyd as I do?

Favorite Songs

-Echoes

-Let There Be More Light

-Breathe

-Money

-Dogs

-Pigs

-Comfortably Numb

-Hey You

-Nobody Home

-On The Turning Away

AND MORE. I don't think there is a single Pink Floyd song I don't like

i've been a floyd fan for a long time, i have everything officially released by the band and solo artists, plus a huge amount of unreleased music and videos

i was also very fortunate to see the classic lineup play together for the very last time. something that now can never be repeated

i would love prince to cover a floyd track like comfortably numb or money or young lust

Oh, WOW! You are very lucky to have been one of the people to see their last ever performance. It would be pretty sweet to see Prince cover a Pink Floyd song. He definitely has the guitar skills to pull off a killer solo for Comfortably Numb.

Such great albums they have made cool

There is a reason they have such a huge fan base! these guys to me are some of the best musicians that ever did it.

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

Gilmore can play so much with a few notes and make it work. I love the classic albums from PF.

I like the MFSL mixes of the Floyd albums those are the ones to have!

What are you outraged about today? CNN has not told you yet?

I came into this music section, and I was thinking about starting a thread to talk about Pink Floyd. I scroll down and see this. Awesome!

I love Pink Floyd. They're some of my all time favorite artists. The Wall is my favorite album of theirs. But The Wall, Darkside Of The Moon, Wish You Were Here are all typical answers. So after The Wall my favorite album is Animals. Now that's a great album. I have to be honest though, the only album I don't really like that much is Piper At The Gates Of Dawn. Fuck me right?

They're just soooo good though, you can't ever get enough of their music. And David Gilmour is like... The best guitarist ever.

And I know I might get some hate for this, but they're much better than the lame ass Beatles.

Anyone remember a Tom Jones TV show in the 1990s where Gilmour played guitar on Tom's version of Purple Rain.

I've been a Floyd fan longer than I have been a Prince fan and I too got to see the last performance of the band at Live 8. Not a dry eye in the house...or park.

Also got the chance to see The Wall...that was a complete mindf**k

Yes, Roger's new tour is pretty sweet. There are new, more modern animations that coincide with the original characters of the movie and tour. It also brings out a message that goes with recent events. Its pretty insipiring.

Unlike the general PF fan, I prefer Animals over Dark Side. The song Dogs does it for me.

SUCH a huge Floyd fan here. The Wall was THE record of my early teen years. Over the years Wish You Were Here has become the one I listen to the most...but hell...all of it is good...from the early Syd days to Division Bell...all of it has its time and place.

I know it isnt a Pink Floyd release, but Waters solo Pros And Cons Of Hitchhiking is awesome. It sounds like the true followup to The Wall rather than Final Cut.

did you know he wrote and demo'd the wall and hitchiking at the same time, and offered both to the band to pick to record?

it is a great album, and claptons finest playing on it

the song sexual revolution from hitchiking was originally intended for the wall and a pink floyd band demo recorded for the album (it was dropped along with empty spaces, the lyrics are still included on the album and the song is in the movie). some of the lyrics are read by bob geldof before the trial sequence in the movie. and when the tigers broke free was written for the wall movie, and released as a single stating it was from the forthcoming album the final cut, which was originally intended to be the tracks from the movie that weren't on and different from the album versions, but that was canned and the next album became the final wall without tigers, but the reissue/remaster of final cut put that track into the middle of the album, which changed the whole flow. it was on the rough mix of the album so didn't seem to be intended on that album at any time (if you consider the final cut to be an album in itself and a different thing from the wall movie soundtrack)

Finally there's a Pink Floyd appreciation thread smile.. Havent seen many PF fans on the org (or at least not noticed them xD) It's a shame I was born in the wrong decade because I would have LOVED to see them live. I heard they had GREAT concerts, anyone willing to share any stories if you went?

It's very hard to pick fav songs by them, because to me all their music is so timeless and iconic, they're just that amazing. My parents are huge fans so my first experience to their music was when I was like 8 years old and I watched the movie "the wall" which was pretty frightening I might add haha...

Pro's is a great album and sonically superb

He never really got the recognition as a solo artist but I love ALL his solo work. Amused To Death was one of my favourite albums back in the day, some really interesting stuff on there and Jeff Beck's guitar work is simply heartwrenching.

Check out PP Arnold singing Perfect Sense on the live CD \ DVD ... just stunning.

I hope he brings The Wall tour back to Europe after he's had a rest, I'd like to see it again, there is so much going it's hard for your mind to take it all in, one of the best concerts I've ever seen.
