People will give them a chance if the ones promoted as R&B stopped being rhythm and bullshit... same goes to you Mariah.

its not even promotion, i mean is she serious with this TALK , did she not hear the garbage she just released, and has released the last decade plus? Dont talk about real RB singers and then do a new single with Fat Fuck Rick Ross and Meek Mill who'll be another forgotten rapper in about a month, come on Mariah, you dont give a shit about RB singers, let me hear you talk about Rashaan Patterson, Van Hunt etc...and take them on tour as opening acts, not Busta Ryhmes, save the BS for no talent husband. You don't hear R&B singers who remain R&B complain about anything. It's always the ones who transitions out of R&B that are the first ones complaining about the genre not getting respect knowing full well they ain't performed R&B in years...

Didn't listen, but R&B has seriously changed over the past few years. Post-808s R&B brought us Drake, which many don't like, but that spawned The Weeknd, who I do enjoy. We also have Miguel and Frank Ocean doing their thing. The future looks promising, and if these artists get more success then we might see more R&B singers getting their chance.

Exactly... plus like rock and roll, R&B has evolved from its earlier gospel oriented songs from the likes of Ruth Brown, Wynonie Harris and Roy Brown. Mariah's type of R&B could only exist in the '90s and apparently she forgot about that along the way. Now she wants to complain.

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Forgot about them. Their last album was fantastic.

Music evolves and changes, people can't expect things to stay in one place. I always hear people complain about how they want 90's R&B back or whatever style of music back. They should just give up, it ain't gonna happen. Music is like people, it evolves and changes, we just gotta deal with it. You'd think that someone in the business would get this.

Remember this woman actually said she was still 12 mentally. Obviously not the person to go to for any musical advice...

That is very true. | |

That's disturbing. Rest in Peace Bettie Boo. See u soon.

They really are bringing back attention to the genre again. I feel it slowly getting back to the front again since the pop girls (some I do like) and some of Hip Hop has been slowly down this year. I'm a mariah fan but not really feeling the first single i'm hoping the next one will be better. [Edited 8/5/12 19:49pm]

Yeah, I'm feeling a change in modern music...R&B's been dormant for a minute but it's returning. I feel like 2013 will be a big year for music.

She said word for word that she's "eternally 12" meaning she feels young dispite her being in her 40's which is what a lot of adults say so they don't feel old. She never said that she's mentally 12, even in an interview where she said there's a time to have fun and a time for business for when she puts the child stuff aside. Glad I cleared that up.
Can't wait for the new CD of hers.

R&B singers need a chance?
WTF. Is there any kind of singer on the radio OTHER THAN so-called R&B singers these days?
I know the music is bullshit, but nobody's keeping "R&B" singers down these days.

You obviously ain't been on the radio much.
R&B ain't been hot in a minute.

Thank you for posting, this sounds good!

Actually, what she said is on point nip/tucking and picking holes in her argument for the hell of it, aside.

Fuck a damn R&B singer or any other type singer needing a chance in the industry. Since the 1990s, that's all the focus has been on, this singer here or that singer there. Hell, there's even several reality show/competition shows like "American Idiot" constantly looking for some boring ass singer. A singer ain't worth a damn without good music behind them no matter how good their voice is.
What needs a chance in the industry is R&B bands. And I'm not talking about no neo stool or jazz influenced stuff, I'm talking about R&B bands that are hard, funky, and get off. Andy is a four letter word.

Glad you cleared that up. I definately don't want her ending up being the female Michael Jackson. The last thing I want to see is Mimi riding around on a Lama.
But, listening to this latest single, you would think a 12 year old recorded it.

Yes, I miss the R&B and Funk bands. So much good music back then. Bands like the Brothers Johnson, Earth, Wind and Fire, Kool & the Gang, Cameo, and many more.

For being around 20+ years, I'm not sure Mariah realizes her own power. Maybe her own singles can't be the kind of R&B she describes but I'm sure she would have some pull to discover and showcase the kind of singers she is describing.
Me personally, I know what she means but I think it is just the sign of a collapsing industry and narrowed radio playlists that everyone is pop now. You might have R&B on your album but the single has to be pop. Same thing with real hip hop, same for rock, same for country, and jazz. It's fun to blame rap or techno for being the popular formula but every genre under the sun is being watered down for that mainstream appeal (and rap or techno don't sound the same on the radio either).
Everyone used to have a choice to cave or not to cave in to the popular sound, but I don't know if there is a choice if you want that "chance" that Mariah is talking about. Just like she says "I'm not saying there's nobody out there", but to give them more of a chance without going pop would be nice.

All that dick sucking and rump poking's gotta stop for once.

I hear you. | |

Yes, BANDS! | |

Like I've said in earlier threads, hip-hop AND r&b need to have that long overdue divorce from each other and stay apart permanmently.
