plus it's misguided. I kind of doubt the person Nicki Minaj is really the one to blame for the music and image of Nicki Minaj
Blame the industry, blame mindless fans, but I don't blame her and I don't blame Li'l Wayne. It's working for them My Legacy

Everyone knows musical taste is all a matter of opinion and all that blah blah blah.
But it reminds me of a review I read about Kanye's MBDTF and the reviewer thanked Kanye for reminding him that he was an expert at what he didn't like, and I feel that way about most people when they talk about, well anything, but especially music.
There's this guy I know that wants to be a singer but his tastes are SO limited I question his future. I predict he'll come off as boring.
This one girl's favorite word is wierd. That's wierd. This is wierd. How about you're wierd. I was playing a Gnarles Barkely track in my car once and she piped in with "this is wierd music". I wanted to say THIS is wierd music? She likes Alicia keys (whatever radio hit she's heard) yet she could'nt really tell you if Tori Amos is a better piano player or not because she's wierd.
Nicki Minaj might be the worst thing to come along since ebola, but I bet what this guy listens to is so boring and unlistenable that you couldn't get through five seconds of it.
While we expect such extreme opinions on message boards, it's in real life where I've opted out of talking about music because people's "tastes" are VERY limited and one who cliams to listen to everything is bound by the playlists of the top twenty.

You gotta love how gullible the public is to believe that stars have the power they claim they have... if it's positive, they're "held back" but if they're negative, they're supposedly evil and they're poisoning the mind of kids as if some adults who are parents are not responsible for that.

Very well said. Azz said:
Whilst Nicki deserves a basic level of humanity, she deserves not an ounce more, arguably less. It's not just that 'her music sucks', it's more than that. It's her pointless, immature, degrading lyrics which majority of the public are subject to everyday of the year. Her image is one which suggests she has no respect for herself, nor respect for her fans and those who buy her music. Her fake implants and demeaning attitude does nothing but to set a bad example to teenage girls - even children like Sophia Grace & Rosie - and ruin the society we live in.
Perhaps I was a little harsh or over the top, but when you see in the media that her fake body and way of life is deemed desirable, and therefore is emulated by adults and children - cementing this certain lifestyle into society, it's frankly disgusting.
The world would be a better place if we idolised and respected deserving inspirational philanthropist public figures - and spend our time learning from them and their way of life. [Edited 8/7/12 9:43am]

So you don't like her implants. Does that make her a slut? Does wearing revealing clothes make her a slut? Mariah Carey wears revealing clothes. I've never heard her being called a slut. Besides, how can you tell who has respect for themselves? You cannot always tell from what they wear. Nicki Minaj is allowed to wear clothes that accent her curves, and you don't have to agree with every wardrobe decision she makes. Maybe she doesn't care to subscribe to the general consensus on what should and should not be worn by respectable ladies. What's it to you anyway?
Here's the thing: Nicki doesn't live for you. It is absolutely her perogative to wear whatever the hell she wants, or be naked if she prefers. Not everything has to make you comfortable or live to fit your standards.
And as for setting an example, it isn't her job to be the example. She's a rapper, a performer, a colorful sartorialist, but she's never claimed to be the epitome of a role model. Besides, according to you, Nicki shouldn't even be the role model. If teenage girls are responding to any negative thing that Nicki produces, it is their parent's job to monitor that. I know that when I was younger, my parents didn't let me watch everything under the sun and listen to everyone's music. Doing so, they monitored the things I heard or saw in order to ensure that I was receiving any information I couldn't totally process yet. Every parent should be in charge of their children's intakes, which will have an effect on who they idolize. The parents are the boss, not some random person on the internet haughtily passing off opinions as facts.
In conclusion: 1. Slut shaming is very bad 2. Nicki Minaj is SO grown and can do whatever she wants (even if you don't agree ) 3. Your post was essentially egregious from start to finish. Congratulations. time flies.

People, you are all missing the much bigger issue here. We need to get that poor feline away from Tristan Barker immediately! Punching kitties in the face is unacceptable!

I'll never understand why some people spend so much time obsessing on artists that they don't like it's really a waste of time and it's probably unhealthy. There are plenty of artists that I don't like and I totally ignore them.In most cases,I have no idea what they're even doing right now,in their careers.
This guy hates Nicki Minaj. The solution is simple: Ignore her, don't buy her music or go to her concerts.Problem solved

That Tristan Barker dude has only ONE friend on his list. Looks like a dead FB profile to me.

I don't want to get into an argument.
But I did include the word 'suggest'. It's what her image suggests and how her attitude comes across which together 'suggest' that she has little self respect. She calls herself a barbie. She changes her body with surgery, and doctors images of herself on her album covers; all to look like a barbie. I don't have to explain the connotations of this, do I?

I ignore her as well and dont spend all day wasting my time talking about how "bad" she is but if a particular thread opens up for people to say their opinion... then I will do it Its annoying how people try to give people a hard time for speaking their opinion on a message board. Its as if they rather people be silent or lie about how they really feel... if something is shit whether I listen to it or not... then its shit and Ill express that when the opportunity presents itself

People really get exicted over music. I feel that if negative or positive emotion is created within the listener then artist has done a good job. Perhaps, i feel the true tragic thing to a musician or any aristist is that of apathy. so while people talk shit about whatever artist, i feel that the artist has ultimately won and perhaps does not care. Not a fan of Minaj, however she is awesome to listen to once and a while.

Her "success" is an example of how irrelevant popular music (ala major labels) have become. Its a little weird how disposable our heroes are anymore. I feel like the original Facebook message was disrespectful/disturbing on many levels, but Nicki Minaj is force fed like mcdonalds anymore. The things she "raps" (right word?) are disrespectful/disturbing. Its called music but it just feels wrong. I try to treat the memorably cheap sounding intros as cue to make an exit... there are many more things that one can choose to feed their ears. Her face/body image obsession makes me smile for the wrongest of wrong reasons. Is she meant to resemble a plastic sex device? Is it wrong that I wonder about that? This upcoming Aaliyah and Drake record and the disregarding of Tim, Missy, Barry, Jomo shows just how strangely they are scraping their barrel. Everything post2k in the "mainstream" is just freakishly mutated fallout tearing at "the good ol days" that no one talk about anymore. Because they can't come back to something that doesnt exist. Nashville survived but most have really fallen out. Its gotta be hard when "nobodys" on singing shows are singing their "hits" better than they do. To their "peers" no less, who are judging them. Paula Abdul used to judge people ln their singing. Fallout. Honestly I feel the worst for the people who actually pay for this broad's product as entertainment.

He's vicious as shit in his post, but really he makes good points in the sense that it's fuckin horrifying that this woman is being paraded out in front of young impressionable girls and you even see little girls imitating her and mentioning being fans of hers, on YouTube.
That really is scary shit and really does make you think about the direction the world is going in currently.
It makes me wonder about her too, knowing how black women tend to be constantly misrepresented and disrespected in the media and the world at large, that she signed on and willing helps perpetuate this shit and helps corrupt other young black females.
She's just an embarrassment and sets black women back decades.

Great post...perfectly sums up what´s wrong with mainstream music today. I don´t necessarily agree with every single sentence and I´m probably a bit less pessimistic regarding the current state of music but all in all, you´re very much on point. Then again, there´s always an alternative to mainstream music......but it is a bit tiresome to have to look and search for some half decent music these days.
Again......great post. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

i was kind of weirded out when elen degeneres had these two adorable little girls on her show doing nicki minaj's song unedited
the song was 'super bass'
lyrics:
This one is for the boys with the booming system
i mean if elen endorses nicki so much that she'd have little girls mimicing, then there is no boundaries to how far people will go. the children's parents were in the audience all proud of their little girls. makes me wonder what people will not do for attention “Transracial is a term that has long since been defined as the adoption of a child that is of a different race than the adoptive parents,” : https://thinkprogress.org...fb6e18544a

i'm wondering if this image is a result of the image that current black female artist are projecting to their fans as one of the ways of getting attention. people like beyonce, rihanna, nicki minaj and their music producers who think the most and only way these body types of females are attractive is when they act out and (in many opinions) debase themselves to get attention. [as in above pix]
as far as nicki she seems to project a packaged sexual image that the music entertainment moguls want impressionable young girls as well as some follower type female adults to follow.
many of nicki's and rihanna's images are historical in that the female is better represented while they project s&m, bondage and visual erotica. if you look at both of their many videos, a large amount of them show images that expose their followers to very submissive and negative images for all women. my feeling on nicki and the gleuteus crew is they are setting women back decades and allowing dominate type males to playout their mindset. [not good especially since these moguls control many and are very wealthy] don't get me wrong i know that everyone has their quirks. however some could conclude that nicki and the afore mentioned (beyonce is a wee bit more reserved) are continually allowing themselves to be packaged as pillowy porn. a type of subtleness that would better be displayed for people 18yrs and older. not judging, because they are free to make their own choices.
it's only my own pov in that it's majorly about the images these ladies are giving and tele-giving to the future generations of the now impressionable young females (as well as the males). how will they (this current young generation) represent themselves socially in the next 10yrs. will women who look like nicki, rihanna, beyonce and etc female entertainers of this genre be catogorized as mindless and only good for gawking at as they gyrate to the images in their minds like the two above at the mcdonalds?
nicki followers gettttttttttttt up off your knees and stop squatting and bending over to the music, and get your hands off the wall, unchain your minds, and move back into your brains, and mostly waaaaaaaaaakkkkkkkkeeeee up for the children's sake.
