Funeral Service Song suggestions

My sweet niece Cecilia passed away on Monday at the tender age of 34. I have been designated to do the music for her service. I'm planning on making 2 discs. The first being songs like "You Bring Me Joy" by Anita Baker. "Resilient (Sapphire)" by Teena Marie, etc. The second disc I want to be uptempo-ish to be played after the services for the lunch part. I've already got "We Are Family" and stuff like that. But I want to know what U guys think. any suggestions?

If it breaks when it bends, U better not put it in!

First I want to say I am sorry for your loss. I think you should play songs that she liked.

My uncle loved the Adams Family,so when he passed away,we ended the service by playing the Adams Family theme song. It definately was not your normal funeral music, but who said we were normal. lol

My condolences... pray

Is it a church/religious service? If so, then you should consult the priest/preacher/religious leader about what music is appropriate....

For the repast, maybe you should talk to her parents and siblings: What you might think is okay, might offend them in their time of mourning. Also they would have a good idea of what she would have wanted to hear...

When my uncle died of Alzheimers last year, my aunt played Celine Dion ALL DAY- in the funeral home and at the house. She was his favorite performer, and they used to keep her playing in his room when he was sick. (I NEVER want to hear "I Am Your Lady" again! lol)

"Love Hurts.
Your lies, they cut me.
Now your words don't mean a thing.
I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..."

-Cher, "Woman's World"

Identity

If she had a deep appreciation of classicial music I'd recommend Beethoven's Symphony No. 7 in A Major Op 92. Allegretto.

My condolences, rose

When my mom passed I focused on her favorite music. For the viewing I chose her favorite gospel songs from James Cleveland, Mahalia Jackson, etc. and for the repast, appropriate selections by EWF, Donny Hathaway, Roberta Flack, Coltrane, Charlie Parker...etc.

So as Chocolate suggested, try to get some input from family members and use appropriate songs from her favorite artists and mix those in with some classics.

Some general song suggestions...

Keep Your Head To The Sky......EWF

Family Reunion.....Ojays

Put Your Hands Together.....Ojays

Joy And Pain.....Frankie Beverly

Human Nature.....Michael Jackson

I'm Every Woman...Chaka Khan

Shining Star....EWF

Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

I think everyone's picked out some great songs but there's always been one song I always suggest for funerals: Elton John's Candel In The Wind. I think you should play what music she liked (would you mind giving us a couple of artists?) I'm so sorry for your loss BTW hug

I am so sorry for your loss... sad But, the one song I know I would like played for me when I pass is Stevie Wonder's "As." To me, there is no better song than this to express the joy of life, how much we remember our loved ones, and the beauty of the realm we pass on to...

I always thought "I Wish It Would Rain" by the Temptations was lovely.

I am sorry for your loss. Ilost my cousin at 29 years old. You Are Not Alone by MJ is a solid choice. For ubeat happier songs, I"d go for songs that your neice enjoyed.
