Updated: Mariah's ''Triumphant'' Single Flops

Mariah Carey - Escape To Total Rewards At Gotham Hall, New York

23 July 2012

Mariah Carey is releasing her latest single, called "Triumphant" (Get 'Em)" early next month.

The pop diva -- and prospective American Idol judge, if reports are to be believed -- announced the news Saturday via Twitter, the choice social-media vehicle for celebrity promotion, in 140 characters or less.

"I wrote TRIUMPHANT when I was going through a difficult time & it helped me get through it," she tweeted. "When u hear it, pay attention 2 the lyrics #WIN."

According to Carey, she's featuring Rick Ross and Meek Mill on the song. The website Celebuzz, meanwhile, reports that the Grammy winner co-wrote and co-produced "Triumphant" along with Jermaine Dupri and Brian Michael Cox, who also collaborated on Carey's past singles "Shake It Off" and "Don't Forget About Us."

This would be the first single from her forthcoming album; Carey's most recent records are 2009's Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel and 2010's Merry Christmas II, which spawned a remix of "All I Want for Christmas Is You" co-starring Carey and Justin Bieber.

I've decided to wait before saying too much about the inclusion of Ross on the lead single, but I'm hoping he's the only rapper guest appearing on the new album.

I'm really looking forward to this.

for her to be well-aware how some people feel about her including rappers in her songs, yet goes on to add two - and in her lead single no less - makes me feel this time she actually knows what she's doing.

I hope it'll be something as hot and inspired as the hip hop stuff on the Butterfly album.

He's a new rapper on the scene. I spoke too soon about the number of rappers that might be on the album.

I don't get it either. She doesn't always have to do a bland ballad to prove that she

can sing because we already know she can sing but why does she feel the need to

include a rapper on her lead singles. mad Can't she just do an uptempo track without

a damn rapper even if it's a Neyo produced track. lol

So it's an emotional song that she wrote when going through "something", yet she has 2 wrappers on it?(such an ambiguous statement, if she did say it...)

This could go either way people....

In the 90's, Mariah was one of those artists for me that I would eagerly anticipate the day her album dropped and pick it up THAT DAY. I can remember staying up all night as my local radio station was premeiring Fantasy in the wee hours of the morning. The woman has gotten so boring and stagnant. The songs since Mimi all sound the same (arguably before that). I really wish she'd switch up her sound, a voice like that is so versatile she could do anything. At least make an album that mixes it up. She obviously wants to cater to her R&B audience but I miss the pop element to her work that she used to have. I guess she's settled on being a "niche" artist at this point. Not that there is anything wrong with that, I just miss her songs with a spark, the melodic Mariah. Everything she releases is so middle of the road and monotone now. So, I don't have much hope for this song or album but here's to hoping!

I thought Memoirs was a nice return to form. Interesting arrangements, a few witty one-liners. I dug it.

The entire song is streaming on her website. Not what I was hoping for at all. The song sounds more like Rick Ross & Meek featuring Mariah Carey. Still catering to that younger audience instead of those of us who helped turn her into a superstar. broken

I'm an admitted die-hard Mariah fan, but I kinda hate this new song with all the rapping on it. How the heck are you going to be a featured guest on something that's 1) your own song, and 2) your LEAD single? confuse I'm going to wait for the resung remixes to see whether or not there's one that I'll be interested in buying.

I hope Mariah has a Vision for this album (excuse the pun). lol

I'm not even a die-hard fan like that but I've always appreciated her voice, vocal arrangements and songwriting. It's kind of sad when you're not comfortable enough to sing verses on your own song. Don't get me wrong, I love experimental stuff. I'm not beholden to one format but this a mistake. Maybe they anticipated the backlash and let it be known that there are going to be remixes with new vocals. Why not knock it out the park on your first attempt? Again, I think its a mistake....

We'll see if their target market bites on it or not. Rick Ross and his Maybach Music Group have been a winning combination for Urban radio this year. We'll see...

"Triumphant'' has to be a bonus track left off Rick Ross' new album or otherwise Mariah is guest starring on her own song. confused
