Identity

The wittiest track ever which used football metaphorically in reference to gettin' busy. That bass line is difficult to define, thundering and unrestrained. Michael, you funky mutha!

Yes! I still get hard every time I see it. All that hair on that chest and going into the top of the swimsuit and coming out of both leg openings onto the legs. And that bulge. Damn, he's hot!

What is strapped to his thigh? Is there a lyrical reference for this cover?

If this was really the album cover i'm surprised the label even let him get away

with that in 1980. Was there any backlash?

This was the album cover for Slingshot, his 1981 album (a year after "Wide Receiver").

but yeah,it's surprising that he got away with that.I don't remember any backlash.

I'm not sure why, when before this came out, hard rock bands like Led Zeppelin had naked children on their album covers and there was that Rolling Stones' record with the zipper on it (Sticky Fingers). There were many album covers with women on them (ie. Ohio Players). A lot of stores did refuse to stock the naked John Lennon & Yoko Ono album though. razz

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Actually, the only two Michael Henderson albums I have are "Solid" and "Wide Receiver" on vinyl and several songs downloaded. Don't think I haven't been keeping an eye out for "Slinghot" in the used record stores though. lol

There's nothing outrageous about that album cover. That's just a swimsuit and those type of skimpy swimsuits for men were very common for men back then. Believe me, I used to go up to the public pools and just watch the men through the fence back in those days. lol Men's swimsuits didn't get conservative until the 1990s. Like I always say, when the the 1990s began, it's like people started going backwards into more conservative times rather than forwards. lol

Vainandy,I am shocked lol you're usually so good with remembering dates!

Slingshot is the sixth album by American bass guitarist Michael Henderson. Released in 1981 on Buddah Records.
