Madonna sued for Vogue sample

BREAKING NEWS: Madonna SUED Over Vogue's Horniness

Madonna is being sued over her dance megahit Vogue -- because she allegedly never paid to make the song SO DAMN HORNY.A record company named VMG Salsoul filed the lawsuit against Madonna in L.A., claiming the singer sampled the horns and strings from Salsoul Orchestra's 1977 dance song "Chicago Bus Stop (Ooh, I Love It)."So why did it take so long? VMG Salsoul claims the samples aren't obvious ... and were only recently detected thanks to new technology that can help isolate and identify individual sounds.VMG Salsoul is now suing for copyright infringement -- demanding unspecified damages.

I'm not sure if there is a statute of limitations but I can't see any traction in this lawsuit.

really it was sampled? Or just an inspiration? I'd love to hear Vogue taken apart into tracks to hear.

This is more obvious to the ear than the 'born this way' & 'Express Yourself' fiasco which I could never hear personally.

She's always done this kind of theft, and has the gall to accuse others of ripping her ... tsk

Why isn't Shep Pettibone being sued as well?

They're similar but not exact. I wouldn't call it a direct ripoff and for all we know Shep was the one who added the strings and horns.

This lawsuit ain't gonna fly. And there is a statute of limitations. If Bobby Byrd and Johnnie Johnson wasn't able to successfully sue James Brown and Chuck Berry for failure to put them in songwriting credits, what makes Salsoul think they got a case in getting millions of dollars from Madonna? Plus she didn't even PRODUCE it. neutral Like someone said why ain't they suing Shep's ass?

I have known this for years. "Vogue", was a straight up sample.

uhhhhhhh um er err eraaaa

Why in the blue goblin fuck they suing her 22 years later confused 22 YEARS LATER

This is insanity lol a couple other people have tried suing other artists for shit years later... if they realluy cared that much they would have done something years ago.

When Vogue was being played all over radio & MTV & Commercials crica 1990.. wouldn't that have pissed them off enough to sue then?

Isn't the early remix of "Express Yourself" and "Vogue" the same track? eek

Funny, I heard less of this version when Vogue became popular. Before Vogue hit, the video used this or a similat track, when Vogue became a hit, Maverick quickly re-issued a new video for Express Yourself that included the Album Version, so people would think that it's not the same song.

Express Yourself/Vogue sounds similar to this remix, which is also by Shep Pettibone:

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

The techonology probably makes their evidence more legally sufficient in a court of law.

But you might be right.

I am sure when they get around to it, they will find out that "Vogue" contains parts of this record as well. Also made by the Salsoul Orchestra.

Shep lifted elements of this song, especially at the 5:13 and 5:15 mark.

1. We've already known about Marilyn

2. None of the Kylie pics were ripped from her, expecially the Super Bowl. Greek and Roman myology and history?

3. Sergio Lagos connection is incredibly questional

4. Madonna didn't direct the Express Yourself video for the Frits Lang connection also it was intended to pay tribute to Metropolis, fans have known this already

5. For Dietrich everybody knows Madonna loves her, "Dietrich and Dimaggio"? And a couple of those pics are questionable

6. I see no connection to Ken Russel and for them to put the cross pic is ridiculous

7. I see no Ann-Margret in those pics

8. Okay I see the connection

9. Already knew about this

10. I see no connection in third pic and again: "Greta Garbo and Monroe"

11. I see no connection in 4th pic and once again "Bette Davis, we love you"

12. All ready knew about this and could just be coincidence

13. Sample, people sample all the time and Shep co wrote and produced song BTW

14. I see little to no connection for Jean Harlow and again "Grace Kelly Harlow, Jean"

15. Madonna loved Princess Diana and was shocked by her death and often payed tribute to her. See the video for Drowned World

16. Okay

17. First two pics, okay third one is probably a coincidence

18. DUH, there'd be no Madonna without Cher and that photoshhot was obviouslyt meant to show that

19. No connection

20. Not much of a connection. I see some similarities but nothing major

21. The whole Vogue era was meant to pay tribute to various people

22. See above

23. I see a connection here

24. Marilyn?

25. Little connection

26. I see a small connection

27. No connection

28. Little to no connection

29. I see a connection

30. It's the same dress!! Of course there's a connection

31. I see a connection but it could just be coincidence

32. For the first one: okay 2nd one: I doubt she knew what it was

33. Okay

34. No connection in the first 2 and Madonna's worn crucifix's since she was a teenager. Also the 4th picture is a FAKE album cover. I see no connection for the rest

35. Tribute and the last pic is a wedding gown. She can't stea; a wedding gown from Donna

36. No connection

37. No connection

38. They both started dressing crazy (both very different styles) at the same time.

39. DUH

40. Why is this here?

41. Okay

42. Okay

43. Okay

44. Little to no connection

45. No connection

46. Kravitz sampled and didn't give credit

47. No connection in the first 2, I see a connection with 3rd, no connection with the 4th

48. Okay

49. I doubt Madonna did that, I'm sure someone else did

50. No connection

I'd like to point out that the site is biased towards Madonna beyond belief and clearly serves as an unreliable resource
