I HATE being a bandwagon-er, but I did preview the song on itunes and I just might have to buy it. 'Super Rich Kids' and 'Bad Religion' really stuck out to me.

And Frank Ocean is really having an effect on the org. It's like a new forum or something. lol

Buy it!

I had the most arduous time buying this damn album today!

First off it's HOT. Like 95 degrees hot, so I'm riding around with the window open because my car is my car. Since Target refused to carry it I had to trek to my local music store, probably the last in the state. Of course they didn't have it! Maybe tomorrow or the next day he tells me. I somehow expected this.

So I get in my car and go ALL THE WAY ACROSS TOWN to the Best Buy at the mall. I did not want to go there today. When I get there I get the last two copies they have (I wanted 3). Comically the cd's weren't in the system, something I feel the clerk had to deal with all day. But I was psyched the damn thing was sold out (AFTER I BOUGHT IT).

Wanting to get a copy for my sister I decided a clean version wouldn't be such a bad idea so I went down the road to Walmart, perused their shelves and came up zero. I don't even think they recieved it (no space for it). I was perterbed.

I blame my future hus- Frank Ocean for that damn early release, which threw retailers off their stodgy game or I blame the sad state of the cd market in 2012.

I'm a technology idiot!

True story I tried to burn that new cd buy The Weeknd and just could not do it. I gave up though it's still on my computer. It's a mixed blessing because I did NOT like that Dirty Diana remake.

But truth be told I'm an old fogey who's stuck in his ways in relation to some of the whipper snappers on this board. I'd take a cd over a download in a heartbeat.

i like the idea of frank ocean better than the music itself.

Pyramids hypnotizes, and super rich kids is fun.

Otherwise it's a little boring.

I can think of 3 problems that keep me outside:

1. His voice. It's nice enough, but sounds exactly the same on every track. He's sad, and resigned to it, and maybe a little whiney. There's nothing fun in that voice - he's not having fun - and neither am i.

2. The hooks just aren't that big. I think i hear them, but they don't get into my head, or make me want more. Again, not a lot of fun.

3. Like others said, he reminds of other artists who did it better. A little Prince, Timbaland/Justin, Kanye. I took Frank Ocean out twice already and played My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy instead.

So, ya. A let down. But as far as concepts go, go get em Frank Ocean.

Yeah he's a meloncholy dude. If Kanye were Jazz, Frank would be blues.

But as for the hooks and your comparison to Kanye, MBDTF does have the advantage of established material. While there are no samples on "Orange", "Fantasy" is what, like 90% sampled.

I can't really quantify how fucking stupid your reply is.

I didn't bring up Prince because I seek Prince sounds in everything I check out. Andre 3000 got A LOT of hype for being so Princey. In the other Frank Ocean nutbusting thread, people said "Pilot Jones" sounds like Prince. I disagree w/ both of those sentiments.

And what about Kanye, Shad, and Whiz Khalifa are "still living in the past"?

Yeah, I think melancholy is a good description...a lot of angst in there.

Which could work if I cared about the subject matter or his way of expressing it...oh well.

Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

Like all of us here he's a Prince fan too... I found 4 reference to Prince on his Tumblr page

porscheeee asked: What's Your Favorite Song ?

prince- when u were mine.

prince. the original based god.

( this was posted under the video of Prince, MJ and James Brown on stage together )

purple rain.

(this posted under a cartoon pic of Prince)

I hope when i meet prince for the first time, he quotes something obscure and releases a dove.
