Mr Jackson is not the "self proclaimed" KingOfPop .....

MJ did not give himself this title.

Liz Taylor called MJ "the king of pop, rock & soul" when presenting him
with an award in either the late 80s/early 90s,...
4get which awards show it was.
& it just stuck...with fans the media.

It just annoys me when u always read in the paper or online or on the news... "self proclaimed king of pop Michael Jackson...".
Because they make it like he is trying 2 bignote himself.
This is something that is never set str8.

...not trying 2 start another MJ war of words here...
just its something that bugs me.

peace
love,
Joshy

Well, he did tell MTV and BET to call him that on the air when he gave them the "Black or White" video. It's written in the RS article on him from '92. Check rollingstone.com for the whole article.

So, even though he did not necessarily originate the title, he is happy to promote himself (sounds like self-proclamation to me) or actively encourage others to use this title when announcing or reporting on him.

It's pretty vain to demand it and hold back on giving the network first dibs to air the video if they don't call him by that title.

I want to know
Just how you feel
Said-a I want to know
If what you feel is real

'Cause there is a reason, yeah
For the things that I say
I want to love you, girl
In a special way

We've been together
For so very long
I would hate to break up
Break up our happy home

The way we stand and the way we lie
The way we love and the way we cry
Of all these things there lies a tie
Makes me feel that it's worth a try

I'll be good to you...

CHORUS:

(Good to you, good to you, good to you)
(I'll be good to you, good to you, good to you)
(I'll be good to you, good to you, good to you)
(I'll be good to you, good to you)

You now those scenes with MJ in concert and some audience members are crying and fainting and screaming over MJ? That is what you are up against. I wouldn't even bother.

lol

Elizabeth Taylor is/was MJ's main homegirl so her addressing him by any title is likely to have been discussed beforeheand... especially with someone so fond of attention and control as Jacko.

Why are we even discussing this? Lyrics from songs like "Tabloid Junkie" have the answers to any point made. lol

Well I don't see the arguement here - if Liz Taylor named him The King of Pop then there is no question.
How could you doubt Liz Taylor??? lol

Liz Taylor might have said it first, but I doubt Liz Taylor is the one who sent MTV the fax demanding that they call him that or they wouldn't get to play his new video that year.
