Artist Devote-A-thread: INXS my favourite band in the world
now with new lead singer Jon Stevens from Aussie rock band Noiseworks, who called it quits as a band in 1992...Stevens has been doing gigs with INXS since late 2000. he is now the official 7th member & permanent lead singer. INXS r currently working on new material, writing & recording for their forthcoming album. 2 of the newbies, "Sugar/Funkster" & "Hungry" (already one of my favourite INXS songs) i have heard live on mp3 & video from a gig in Argentina last year...& Andrew Farris wrote "Hungry",i know that much... they have not lost their touch as great songwriters at all & Jon's voice fits like a glove.Even on the old stuff. The fire in their per4mance is that of the old live clips u would see from the days of "Listen Like thieves" or "shabooh shoobah". they arent back as a cover band of old INXS songs... they wanna make great music once again... & at the same time, take Michael's work 2 the masses again. i saw them live in person 4 the 1st time at the lemans afterrace concert on newyearsEve 2000/01 ... at the front of the pit,& it was brilliant. NOW...that they have been on the road for a year or so with Stevens...i CANT WAIT 2 c them again in a 3 weeks or so. & hopefully "Hungry" will be played. i had some photos taken of myself next 2 the memorial in sydney for MichaelHutchence...but i cant find the originals...only the blown up version that is on my wall. Michael's voice & his words ...4 me,its hard 2 put in2 words...but hearing a song like ,in mu opinion one of the most beautiful ballads ever,"By My Side"...or a rocker like 'New Sensation' or 'Time',just gives me a great feeling. Seeing the Wembley 1991 gig on video made me want 2 one day sing in a rock band. His energy on stage, the feeling he puts in2 every song, & just how he could get a crowd or 72,000 people going... it is a shame he is gone...as he is the main reason i 1stly got in2 INXS & bought up all their albums. But i believe INXS will be successful with their new album. the big fans like us r still around...they sold out their last tour pretty much in the US...also South America...& in Chile they have just played a festival this past weekend & the whole nation gave them much love. my favourite INXS albums: ElegantlyWasted X Kick WelcomeToWhereverYouAre ListenLikeThieves Full Moon Dirty Hearts & the Stay Young 2cd set of early recordings, live stuff & b*sides is a wonderful package 2 c where they started in the pubs of Australia & the early sound. songs: By My Side SuicideBlonde Taste It Shine ElegantlyWasted Hungry The Loved One Never Tear us Apart Just A Man The Stairs This Time Don't Change Stay Young NewSensation show some love 4 INXS peace love, Joshy edit is ElegantlyWasted [This message was edited Thu Feb 27 6:16:44 PST 2003 by Joshy84au] ***************************************************************************************

You know i saw concert footage of John Stevens as vocalist and before i thought it would be impossible for them to carry on successfully without Michael, but damn he does a darn fine job. I've never been a massive fan of the band but i got a lot of respect for them. I just wish they would experiment a little more. I thought their last album Elegantly Wasted was pretty good though, the title track was the worst thing on there.

I LOOOVVVEE INXS! I saw then in 1988 on the KICK tour. So glad I got to see Hutch. He is truly missed. Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

much thanx 2 everyone who posted
wildheartxxx: Welcome 2Wherever U Are had some experimentatal sounds on there...just something much different from the sound of "X". but i do agree with u tho.....the talents that especially Kirk pengilly & Andrew farriss have as musicians.....something far out could have been done. & we know that Hutch liked 2 go way out,ie; MaxQ. (which is a solo project he did with ollie olsen & some other musicians in 1988....check it out if u can) as 4 "EW"...i love the groove & is just funky 2 me. but im a die hard fan so u can understand that I will post a review of the march 23rd gig here in Adelaide when i come down from cloud 9 peace love, Joshy this tiiiiime will be the last tiiiiime that we will edit like this [This message was edited Thu Feb 27 20:13:20 PST 2003 by Joshy84au] ***************************************************************************************

I love their first 2 records, which have now been rereleased on the "Stay Young: The Deluxe Years" comp. They were so full of energy and ideas. I rate those with their other great ones like "Kick" and "...Thieves". NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

i love INXS. I think Welcome to Wherever You Are is a CRIMINALLY overlooked album. It's fantastic..
it's a shame that album wasn't more successful - same with Full Moon Dirty Hearts, which really does have some great material. Anybody else love the Max Q cd??

Anybody else love the Max Q cd?? well MaxQ is excellent & different. i thought Monday Nite By Sattelite was written by Hutch...about Kylie...because of the line "..most people think we're brats...but i think we're,pretty smart" but then i read it is written fully by Ollie Olsen. Yeah Welcome 2 Wherever U R is brilliant. Full Moon is pretty deep. Elegantly Wasted rocks 4 mine tho. ***************************************************************************************
