I Don't Think Lionel Get's Enough Credit For...

Blending the styles he did, people cry fowl because he left his funk day's behind in the 80's.

But look at the songs & singles on Can't Slow Down. grant it i sometimes tire of love song after love song. But Lionel wrote some classics & i mean

Hello- Slow ballad

All Nigh Long- Pretty funky jam that incoparates other world music in it to

Stuck On You- Country ballad(i believe it also was number 1 on country charts? or 2?)

Running With The Night-Hard rock, much like bear it has some great guitar work & a fantastic solo

Can't Slow Down- Kind of sounds like a Thriller-esque Wanna Be Startin Something jam

Than there is stuff like Deep River Woman which is another great country song that he did with Alabama.

Lionel also did a remake of Brickhouse with Rob Zombie & Trina lol

People may hit his ballad day's.. but he much like MJ, Prince & others where mixing genres together and giving R&B radio blazing solos & country vibes. It would be awesome to hear a guitar solo in a modern R&B Song cool

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

I mean it! i never knew the entire lyrics for some reason... This mofo talking about people playing games in the park.. in the dark. Than later goes to talk about how you need friend's and the world's got you dancing confused

Did Lionel just make this shit up & say ok sure we will go with this lol

In the UK at least, he gets enough credit. His greatest hits and a few new tracks alnum "back to front", sold miles better then in the states. Whilst "my destiny" is one of his biggest hits here.

Honestly, the only thing I think about when I see Lionel is how he got his ass beat when his wife caught him with his jump off.

It was for a soundtrack, maybe it's the plot of the movie. I think it was White Nights, but I've never seen it.

And let's not forget my two favorites from the album, the quiet storm, mid-tempo jam "Love Will Find A Way" and "The Only One".

Yeah, same here, lol. His stuff may have been sappy and poppy and all that, but IMO, he went on an astounding run of creativity from about '77 to '92.

Even his later albums have some good individual efforts (eg. Tender Heart on the Renaissance album). Plus, I think the most convincing song to me from Just Go was the only one he wrote (Eternity).

I just remember seeing the commercials for the film and it starred Baryshnikov & Gregory Hines. Baryshnikov was kinda popular during the mid 80's, if you're into ballet.

No LOL. From what I remember, It was the mid 80's so its about soviet commumist Russia and I think Hines helps Baryshnikov defect the country as he is forced to perform their. I think Hines defects to Russia after vietnam. Yes it's melodramatic but based on a truth that dogged a real life ballet performer called Nureyev.

It's not a bad movie actually, but it's not your typical dance film. Lionals song was not included on the OST as Motown blocked it.

Nope. My uncle Teddy wanted to date Brenda Richie after that mess went down. Matter of fact, I think old boy wrote her a fan letter.

SoulAlive

I like his first solo album and 'Can't Slow Down' but I lost interest after that.'Dancing On The Ceiling' is so cheesy and schmaltzy...the lame title track is the most soul-less song he ever did!

lol Yeah. But, I think he more than made up for it on "Love Will Conquer All", my third favorite song from his solo career.

Whenever I hear this I think of Billy Ocean's Loverboy and vice versa for some reason.

It is one of the most notorious tales in black music history. Lionel better be happy that shit didn't happen now, as TMZ would be ALL over it.

I giggle my butt off every time somebody brings it up.

It was only surpassed by Al Green's "grits" incident.
