D'Angelo Tour (Summer 2012)

D'Angelo has just announced some July dates in Europe (France, Denmark, and Switzerland - Montreux Jazz Festival). After seeing his return to the stage earlier this year, is anyone looking forward to these shows? Is anyone going? Does anyone agree that he should come stateside soon?

Not another thread on this, again.

I and a few others have posted the dates for Montreux, North Sea, etc.

Do you have a full list of dates and if so, could you post?

Yes, he needs to come stateside, but he needs to tighten up the show

GetXXX, if you don't like D or the threads, of which there have not been many on his SUMMER tour, don't read them. I don't understand your point of coming into a thread to express disdainment for it.

I tell you what I'm not gonna do if he does decide to come to my town: Look at fan footage on youtube. I know now that it'll take away from my enjoyment of the show.

Well what I've realized from gorging on his European Tour footage was the similarities of some of the shows. This isn't the D of 2000. I didn't need to gobble up each video I could get my hands on.

Now I just feel it'll be better to go in cold, that way if it's radically polished from the earlier footage from this year I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Well there were similarities between his 2000 shows. Same set list. Were you disappointed with the European shows?

No the shows were great and I can't wait to see him.

But it reminds me of when I went to GaGa last year. I hadn't seen any videos of the show prior so everything was new to me. I didn't know what was coming.

Of course the 2000 shows were more dynamic but that's just a minor quibble.

He's also performing at the Pori Jazz festival in Pori, Finland on Friday, July 20. He's actually the headliner of that day, which I find strange since he's not very well known here in Finland. I'd love to go, but Pori is quite far away from where I live and the concert tickets are expensive, 65 euros.

21, do a search of the board-i am pretty sure i posted about north sea and the date. re Pori, that seems a smaller festival, maybe that is why he is headlining there.

He was just announced to perform at Essence Festival in July

NEW YORK (AP) — D'Angelo is making his comeback: The reclusive singer will give his first U.S. performance in 10 years at the 2012 Essence Music Festival.

D'Angelo will perform during the festival's opening night. It runs from July 6 to July 8 in New Orleans and also features Trey Songz, Aretha Franklin, Mary J. Blige and many others.

The soul singer's latest album is 2000's "Voodoo." It went platinum and won two Grammy Awards, including best R&B album. His debut, 1995's " Brown Sugar," was also a platinum effort.

Since that, D'Angelo has stepped away from the music scene, drawing attention for his run-ins with the law.

The 37-year-old wrapped up a prostitution case last month by pleading guilty to disorderly conduct after his March 2010 arrest.

His record label said he is working on a new album.

D' keeps doing all of these shows full of covers and stuff. And even though they are damn funky as hell, why isn't he playing this new material that's been hyped up for almost a decade??? confused

I'm considering going to see him again, since he's coming back to Europe but I really thought by now we would get a new album. If I do go, I hope it's a bit better than the first show I saw back in feb. D, release that damn album already and keep working day and night so you can give us more music! How much longer do we need to wait lol.

He can freak it like Miles Davis did back in the day and just do shows that showcase his new stuff. Or even do a One Nite Alone-esque tour. That would be dope.
