This reminds me of a discussion I started sometime last fall here on the Org about Drake. Everytime I walk down the street and someone is playing a Drake song, I'm like, "Does this person really like Drake or are they just playing the song because it's popular?" This dude isn't particularly handsome (to me), CANNOT SING and cannot rap. He's monotone and overexposed as well....seriously, it takes no musical or vocal talent anymore to actually be famous in the music industry?

I actually think he's better than Lil Wayne though. It's sort of a Professor X/Jean Grey complex where the student ends up being more poweful than the teacher.

As a fan of classic hip hop with raw beats and dope lyrics...
I can not understand what the fuzz is about him.
But I can understand why teenagers like him.
He just states a simple fact like "water is wet" and those teens take it as the world's most important and deep message ever and will make it their facebook status.

90% of his music is not my thing. Not as hiphop, not as r&b. It sounds cheap, like popdance.
His voice is irritating and nasal.

His looks?
If this dude looks like someone it's probably Barack Obama. Would you call Barack Obama sexy?

I think Drake is ugly lol xD. He started off as an actor I believe in a show on MTV some yrs ago, if I'm not mistaken. He has no street credit, which is not really needed today anyways lo (not in mainstream music at least)l. His popularity is due to his lyrics that are of a higher standard than some other mainstream rappers and that he produces his own beats. He also got more hype with the songs he produced for Alicia Keys "Un-thinkable" & for his own album"Firework" in 2010. I also think that he gets more respect because his beats arent the typical "RedOne/David Guetta" productions, meaning very euro/house/electro sounding ones.... I dont like him tho.. J Cole & Kendrick Lamar are superior lyrically & with better beats.

Thanks for your answer, it at least gives me a bit of an understanding of why he is taken seriously by magazines like name and spin.

Im mortified to say, I actually like his songs, but realized that my son is going to ask "why is he different to all the chart music you say is crap?", and I wouldn't have an answer!

Drake is going to have to remain my guilty little secret! Lol!

I didn't know he was Black. Wow! I guess having a Jewish White Canadian mother (where he was born) and an American Black father makes you Black.

Drake is whack and is part of the reason the music industry sucks!

One drop rule.

Exactly. nod

Ok I'm getting a little wound up and even confused now, being half Latin, I have a fiery temper!

What are u saying? Implying? That My post is rasist? Wrong? I've heard black people argue that the one drop rule is right when we call obama multiracial! I've also heard people b called racist for calling a bi racial person black! So I'm confused!

I'm bi racial and I am Latin and I am white it really is that simple! Fights over political correctness are not the topic of this thread! They lead to more fights, not peace and true equality!

And isn't it a little exclusionist to say he's not black? Almost a form of racism? Bi racial people are often not embraced or accepted by either one of their races failing to ever feel a real sense of belonging! Genetically and culturally we are both of are races!
